Master pattern designer
Loved by makers worldwide I'm Trish, and I'm the fat lady behind Fat Lady Crochet.

I've been crocheting since 1999, when I learned the craft while working in the remote forest of Northern Alberta. Since picking up the hook all those years ago, I've taken my craft and turned it into an art and business. It's my vision to do 2 things: Firstly, to share my ideas with others by providing excellence in pattern writing, and secondly, to promote heirloom-quality gifts that emphasize su

stainable services and resources. I now write and design patterns, publishing with several magazines and on my own. My pieces can be found for sale at various shops, art galleries and museums including Dinosaur Provincial Park, Heritage Park, Lebel Mansion and AAC Works. I've produced thousands of pieces that have traveled around the globe to their new homes. My patterns are purchased by people from all over the world - many in North America, Europe and even Africa and Japan. Please enjoy my page, invite others you think might be interested, and thank you for supporting small, local, Canadian and woman-owned businesses.

Introducing my summer hire, Veronica!

Veronica is joining Fat Lady Crochet for the summer as the Business Administration Manager while on semester break for her Bachelor of Arts degree. She helps with the behind-the-scenes work that keeps the business organized and running smoothly day to day.

Some of her duties include standardizing listings across all selling platforms, managing product listings, helping with social media, organizing files and systems, research projects, and assisting with general administrative tasks. She also helps maintain our operations manual and supports ongoing projects as the business continues to grow.

Veronica brings a thoughtful, organized approach to her work and has quickly become an important part of the team. She’s also my daughter, which makes this gig extra fun for me!

It’s been ages since I used any other yarn besides Hobbii cotton and today I picked up some soft yarn from the Loops & Threads line for a custom pet memorial piece.

Have you heard about the Hobbii controversy about integrating AI in several ways including replacing human photographers for their marketing? 🤨

I still love my Hobbii yarn but I really hope they reconsider.

All our crochet pattern versions of Grimace and our Hamburglar are going into retirement on May 15. These patterns have been purchased by a lot of you that created special gifts for people that either work at McDonald’s or just love it. Didn’t ever tell you I spent 4 years during university working there? One of the funnest jobs I ever had. 🍟
