Here is the rest of our project ..

Originally these clients didn’t want to address their living room but thankfully we convinced them.

In open concept homes you can’t renovate one space and not the adjoining space… the untouched one will look sooooooo dated and we can guarantee you’ll regret leaving it as it was.

Now the home flows from one space to the next seamlessly and we can sleep at night knowing we did our due diligence 😮‍💨

Here are some of the things we almost always change or add when updating a home.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. Lighting. You need more light than you think. Light to create ambience, task lighting and accent lighting. Dimmers are your friend. 💡
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2. Textiles. This is what gives a space personality. People want to fight us on cushions and let me tell you, fabrics are a hill I will die on. They bring the whole design together! 👏
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3. Window Treatments. Again, lets leg wrestle over this one. Draperies instantly transform a space, add softness and make a room feel complete. 💫
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

We think a great entry includes the following things...

1. A bench to sit on.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When possible, add a bench! No matter what your age, it’s always easier to put your shoes on when you sit on a bench.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2. An area rug to define the space.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You don’t want people stepping in on your hardwood and your guests don’t want a teeny tiny rug to try and balance on when they come in the door. And don’t get me started on those commercial black rugs you see in office buildings…. No.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3. A good size mirror.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You have to check your teeth before you leave the house and do a fit check. Plus it makes your entry look bigger by reflecting the spaces around it.

4. A great light fixture.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Not only will it make your home look more impressive, it’ll make your guests excited to come in and see what’s next.

Don’t forget about your entry! You want to make a good impression as soon as the front door opens.

This “Jill and Jill” bathroom between two sisters bedrooms is the perfect spot for getting ready in the morning for school and winding down for bed at night.

Lots of functional storage for them both and the right amount of colour to keep it interesting yet calm.

The primary bedroom of our Bearspaw 2 project had been on the clients wish list for years and it was finally time to update it.

It was once a cold and uninviting space that never felt like their ideal bedroom and got transformed into a warm, personality filled, well designed space that they absolutely love.

Their reaction to their new design is why we love designing primary bedrooms and why we always encourage them to be part of the renovation list!

Infill homes tend to come with a typical layout... which aren’t necessarily the most functional.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
While the general layout of this client’s home couldn’t be massively changed, we could change the overall function of the main level.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We added a TON of storage in both the kitchen and the back entry, lengthened the island and attached the dining room table to it so it was no longer shoved against a wall which created a far better flow for the most used area of the home.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Now everything they need for daily life has a place to live when not in use, the cabinets go from floor to ceiling and hide the useful but ugly bits and this narrow infill has been maxed out with both storage and looks.

Another well designed laundry room - this time upstairs at our Bearspaw Project Refresh.

This Calgary interior design client needed better storage and she wanted a coffee station near her bedroom. Can you blame her? Who wants to walk downstairs for coffee when you could have your coffee station a few steps from your primary bedroom?

More functional storage, new tile, pull out drying racks and step stool drawers under her washer dryer to reach the high cabinets… this laundry space got a serious boost in usability. And don’t forget that wallpapered ceiling!

They make an impact, add a pop of fun … their like jazz hands after a dance routine. Or a mic drop. Or throwing deuces up after a dance off (dance offs are a thing I’m sure of it).
