She was basic…now no one would DARE call her that.

Deep, moody wood millwork that wraps the corner.
A curved bar that feels architectural, not boxy.
Warm layered LEDs that make the shelves glow.
A clean stone top to keep it sharp.
And can we talk about the hardwood pattern?! 🥵

This space went from nothing to literally everything.

Our most recent renovation on Lansdowne is now the most highly requested bar in town thanks to yours truly and a client who was totally dedicated to making this space unreal.

Design overwhelm is real. Here’s help.

Ever stared at a table full of samples, a glass of wine in hand, and wondered if you’re about to make a $10,000 mistake? (Been there. More than once.)

The truth is, you don’t need to pick everything at once. Start with one thing you love—a tile, a fabric, even a dried flower you found at the market. Let that be your anchor. Suddenly, all those decisions? Way less scary.

We get it. Design is emotional. It’s your story, your space, and your hard-earned dang money. So here’s our best advice: breathe, trust your gut, and don’t be afraid to ask for help. (Seriously. That’s what we’re here for.)

Feeling stuck making decisons for your place?

If you’ve ever stood in a paint aisle and felt your soul leave your body, you’re not alone. Renovations and furnishing decisions are *a lot*—even for us, and we do this on the daily. The good news? There are ways to make it way less overwhelming (and maybe even a little fun).

Start by picking one thing you love. Your grandma’s blue vase, that wild art print, or even a dreamy sofa. Let it lead the way. Build your palette and pieces around it, instead of trying to make everything match. (We call it the “sisters not twins” rule. Trust us. It works.)

And don’t forget: you don’t have to do it all at once. Tackle one room, one corner, or even one mantle at a time. Progress counts, perfection doesn’t.

This is a bit different than I imagined.

If you told me last year that I would be taking a month off work, I would have assumed Shawn, Blakely and I were finally spending a month abroad. South of France here we come!

But what’s that saying? God laughs while you’re busy making plans?

While I won’t be sipping champagne in Champagne, I WILL be taking the time to rest, recover and recuperate following a dual joint replacement surgery. I cannot wait to be able to speak, sing and eat without pain. Y’all are gonna be sick of me 🤭

While I’m resting, the Studio will be working hard and pushing forward on all of our amazing project work. I couldn’t be more thankful for an amazing team of strong, talented women, who care as much about our clients and projects as I do.

Happy (Early) One Year Work Anniversary to our Unicorn, Ife! 🦄

It’s hard to put into words the impact she’s had on Studio Blake—and on me personally.

I remember interviewing Ife - when I asked what a past employer might say about her, she shared her areas for growth and then added, “But… she kept calling me a unicorn?” YOU’RE HIRED.

Since then, Ife has brought incredible range and mastery to our studio—her eye for design is impeccable, her feedback is thoughtful, and her care for our clients is unmatched. She’s navigated the chaos of entrepreneurship with poise and humour, and made this place feel more grounded, capable, and inspired.

We’re better because she’s here—and our clients are too.

Our inspiration this week are featuring more colour and fun than ever before. We have the incredible honour of working with clients who have given us creative license to explore and play!

Did I hug a client this week and say “I’m so glad you’re here” (with me, as my client) because she selected a bold AF fabric pattern? Yes I did 🤣

Did I do a happy dance because my clients emailed me saying “you know what, you haven’t lead us astray yet, you choose!”? YES I DID

You deserve a design team that challenges you to do more, to step outside your comfort zone, to earn that damn money 😉

Studio Saves

It’s a gloomy Sunday so I instinctively pulled moodier photos from our saves this week 🤣🤷🏼‍♀️

I was saving these images and couldn’t help thinking “if you want to consume differently, you have to consume differently.” It wasn’t long ago that all our clients were all chasing after the same look. Everyone wanted “Modern Farmhouse” and more recently “Modern Organic.” Buying the same viral crap and dupes that everyone on the internet was slinging.

And, thank god, we seem to be on a track of less mass consumption, and more expression of individualism in design. So we would encourage you to “consume” content differently. Dig deeper. Make an aspirational pinboard you’re actually excited about and makes you happy!

We’re very into it 😏
