Technology Tangle

Last night when I was making a Reel and creating a story with some of Robert’s beautiful pottery, I discovered a Robert McMillan who had quite a terrible rant! You know the type Grey Profile dot and no profile picture . It seemed to be attached to our reels section.
One such Rant was 20 days ago and the other one was only a day old!

I was horrified thinking I hope people who wanted to go in and enjoy our reels, certainly don’t think that is MY Robert McMillan!

This is NOT “our”Robert the happy Potter of Hope River! So if you see any suspicious or out of character words or pictures! It is NOT us!

When I clicked on this profile to see what it was about I received a notice saying Potters Wife of Hope River has been shut down, my page went blank and when I went in and out of the app everything looked fine.

But now when I comment or want to share something I get notified that the Potter’s Wife of Hope River is restricted.

So while I work on this and you know how I love working with technology hoops 😳🙄😬 know I can post here I think but I can not necessarily comment to your comments!

It’s funny, in the past, I have reported people impersonating friends that have passed away, bullies, violent posts and prejudice and they are not restricted! It always comes back that they have NOT violated any community standards!

It seems unbelievable that they are restricting the Potter’s Wife of Hope River from commenting or sharing posts when it reports a few minutes ago that my account Status is healthy! 🙄

Technology is not my greatest suit but one thing I have tried to do on my page and Robert’s (our virtual workspace) and (our physical workspace) the studio and the gallery, making a safe and inviting place to “BE” with uplifting and inspirational stories

So bear with me as I try to get this mess straightened out so Stories of the Studios and our wonderful pictures can be offered and shared again!

I so wanted to share our upcoming First Year Anniversary with you!

Keep you fingers crossed as of now they have Potters Wife of Hope River Restricted until December!

Stories of the Gallery

A Whole New Shopping Experience!

This is how we do it! 🙂❤️😆😃💝

Potter’s Wife of Hope River has been busy with text, email and even FaceTime, taking people from other parts of the country on tour in the Studio meeting Robert and up in the gallery to do “our” online shopping experience!

I have been doing this the past two years and it is a fun experience and it is like going on a shopping trip with the girls!

One of the last shopping trips I FaceTimed were two neighbourhood girls sitting in their car in the afternoon! It was a lovely few minutes. They got to see the gallery, meet Robert see the Studio and his inspirational view and then up to the gallery we went! It was great to see their faces and show them Robert’s exciting new pottery!

They made their choices and the paid when they got home that night through e-transfer! It was shipped out the next day!

Through FaceTime Messenger and text, I get to know you better and what you like so I can post pictures of the product you are looking for!

Then when the decision is made on the piece you want, I pull them out! Put them on a shelf or table and take close up pictures: front shots, back shots and inside the item, shot.

In doing this the client can see better what they are purchasing! And sometimes I don’t make the decision easy 🤣🤣🤣🤣 by showing the client something extra to make sure they are picking from the best choice we have, Right Cindy Pringle Sherry King and Pat Goodwin?

So even though our sign on our physical Gallery and Studio says closed - BEHIND the SCENES - I want you to know that the virtual shopping experience is available, to you! 😃😃😃

We just set a time to get together and we just do it! It’s a lot of fun, the gifts or item gets chosen, I take a picture of the final bill and charge shipping if need be if it is going across the country by post.

Just recently I was sent a shipping label paid and sent it off by transport! That is the first time we shipped like that!

Sometimes we package it up and the buyer picks it up at the gallery and they ship it off by their trusted carrier

At other times, I hand deliver to people’s houses when I travel to Charlottetown or make my trips back to New Brunswick! In that case you save on your shipping costs❤️

I should really wear my my red Mrs. Santa Hat in November 🤶as most of the pottery boughten will be Christmas gifts for that special someone! 🎄🎁💝

And then sometimes that certain order is boughten at a time convenient for the person and myself 11:30pm or 6 am in the morning just because we are UP and online 😆🤣😆🤣😆

But the shopping gets done. It’s all paid and wrapped and it waits safely on the shelf for weeks until the person comes to pick it up. The beauty in that type of shopping is the person gets what we have, when we have!

Sometimes when our gallery opens we quickly get sold out and it is awhile before Robert makes that item again 🙂.

That happened just recently with the purchase of 2 Sand Dune Berry Bowls. They were the last 2 in the gallery and we will not have that product for the rest of the year!
So happy shopper she was!😄

Here are pictures of one of two delivery days! This is my delivery to the Post Office in Hunter River. 5 parcels went out this week, 1 to a courier Transport, and the little bag a hand delivery in Charlottetown!😄

We have had no casualties with broken pottery this year using Canada post, thankfully and they have been doing a great job with speed! NS packages usually make it by next day!🙂 and out west in a week 🇨🇦

Keep in mind with posting and shipping we try and keep the costs to a minimum for you but fuel charges we are charged in postage is added, we need to drive it from our rural community to get it to post and the price of boxes, bubble wrap and paper have gone up in price at a great rate this year.

Sometimes I drop for free because I am just going your way anyway. It is lovely if we get a visit by your door!🙂❤️😃

So that is the process of “our personal pottery shopping” It is fun and a different way to shop.

We do not know if we will open up the online shop again that was set up during COVID. Robert had a hard time keeping the inventory for you and we don’t want our buyers to be disappointed!

So this video and texting way of shopping seems to work for Us!

Share this post with your friends if they love pottery and you know they are busy and it would help them with their Christmas Shopping! Last year when the Christmas mugs started coming, this method was used a lot! To save them a trip to Hope River their mugs were all packaged up for pick up at the PEI Crafts Christmas Market!

We will be there again this year at the Seaport in Charlottetown!

Something Is Brewing In The Garden

Every Pot Doesn’t Make It!

As a Potter for 50 years many pots have been held in Robert’s hands.
Every once in a while one will fly off the wheel, get bumped off a board or simple not make it through the kiln at bisquing or firing to the finish.

Robert’s pots make their way traveling on boards and shelves as the go through either the dry bisque glazing method or the underglaze wet method. All those colours take time, care and love ❤️

From his hands to yours many of you have purchased his functional mugs, bowls, butterdishes etc etc. and because of their durability they last a very long time! Some of them have become your favourites over time with lots of use! 🥰❤️

We are always happy to hear your stories about your favourites and what they mean to you! 🥰❤️🥰

On the other hand, we also have heard MANY stories of loss over the last few years! We hear how a cherished mug got knocked or dropped and met it’s demise 🥀😢
And we also seem to take that moment and feel that emotion with that person sharing.

Funny how pottery touches the emotions! Doesn’t it?

Well for Robert he too has a few mugs, teacups, dishes and vases that he really loves!

Original pieces or what his mother termed as “racers” These are the mugs you make that you fall in love with, keep for yourself and are put high on shelf (not for sale) to be used as a muse in creating more like this piece or try and develop it into something again more wonderful!

At the time you know that is a Racer to be kept special! 😃

Eventually in time they get placed in our cupboards to use and enjoy. Some of his pieces are very old!

They are so special they are not our every day special mugs ( we have a lot of those) but these are special mugs we like to pull out for teatime like the other afternoon when Roger Gillcash and Pam his wife came to visit and share time with us!

The favourites were brought out, everyone had a choice of mug or teacup! The choice of tea was picked and teatime was about to start. The hot water from the teakettle poured and the bags steeping in the cups….

and then something quick happened for Robert in pulling the teacup toward him. He doesn’t know what happened it was so quick! It dumped, he jumped from the extreme heat in his lap and the teacup went tumbling to the floor and struck in a most violent way! 😬😢

Robert was not burned thankfully but his dear mug that was 10 years old. This teacup was made before the Stratford Studio Accident and cherished so dearly because it was inspired after he came home from a workshop in the States.

He made quite a few and sold a few but he kept two of these teacups. Special because he went on to further develope them in time to his Shoreline Collection that everyone seems to love because of the Cobalt blue and his rich leather brown.

The other teacup was the precursor to his Boreal Collection that collectors love for its rich ash green that blends down into the browns.

Both are beautiful mugs and were more mat in the finish! Two of our mates sitting in the cupboard! Now we have one lone Cobalt piece left!
Condolences Robert! 😢

Well, every pot doesn’t make it! I am sure every one of us that love pottery can empathize with Robert in the loss of his mug and have felt that deep sadness in the moment when staring at the shards that once was a cherished mug that held your hand for so many years!

So what do you do? 😢😟

We stare at it and give it, it’s moment and then we start the clean up and pick up the pieces just like we do in life!

Now what do we do with the pieces? Life has so many congruent characteristics to pottery!

People treat picking up the pieces in so many different ways! But Robert and I choose resilience for ourselves and our pottery.

This piece is too important and must be moved on into a new journey! So with a prayer, we send it out to the Potters Garden to beautify our space in Front of the Potter’s Gallery!

Fall is setting into the garden and with that our summer plants are trailing off. In a few moments a little area that was looking a bit drab was beautified by this amazing teacup that has had this wonderful life of 10 years with Robert!

Robert and his teacup both have stories to tell!

You we see this teacup proudly taking his place in the garden with the sun rays shining down to make him sparkle and rain to make him shimmer! I have left the teabag attached! It just seemed to be fitting! It’s a piece of art with it’s on expression, now!❤️

He spoke loudly to let us know it was time!
He was done serving tea and time to move along to greater things!
He has made it to the other side to spend time in The Potter’s Garden.

Studio Stories

The Great Migration

Well the cold weather is coming!
1 degree! 😮‍💨
So it’s time to think about rolling the Spring to fall Studio to an end!

The clay is getting cold and the glazes will freeze after the temperatures drop. Robert has been throwing in front of his beautiful window with the office view but we had to turn the heater on for comfort a couple weeks ago sooooooo 1 degree today!!!

The time is coming that we have to think about moving to the smaller Cozy Studio! 😁😁

So I, the Potter’s Wife of Hope River,
will be in the Gallery having fun with our visitors and having the music on!

We have some beautiful pottery to share with you at Robert McMillan Pottery. The music, laughter, stories will be happening today!

Robert and his son will be moving clay boxes into the house to keep them warm. A HUGE HEAVY job!

Later on when the big Studio warms up he will probably be sitting down to throw Christmas mugs!🎄Always fun to watch and listen to his philosophy! pottery is much like life!

Thanksgiving Message to All

Yesterday was a great day and I know today is going to be a great day too, for many.

Many people will be gathering together today or perhaps tomorrow. They will be gathering around tables to celebrate with family and friends during the Thanksgiving Season.

Usually it is a time of great joy seeing people perhaps that haven’t seen each other in a very long time. It tends to be a time where people might go back home if they are away.🍁

It’s a time to gather around to give thanks for the many people in our lives and all the various jobs and services that make our community tick and make our lives safe and comfortable: nurses, doctors, teachers and their aids, police, fire departments, and all administration who run them, etc etc. 🍁

Farm workers from owners right on down to people working the fields: the truckers, harvesters, to packers and our wonderful transport system that move product around.
Rail, trucks, ports and ferry workers.🍁Thank You!

Along with our municipal, provincial and federal elects that help run our villages, towns, cities, provinces and country.🍁we are so fortunate to be 🇨🇦 Canadians and have freedom! Thanks to all our military women and men and people out there keeping the peace! 🍁Thank You!

And for all those jobs in between that seem to be the kind of jobs that people take for granted. All the cleaners, custodians, and our sanitation crews. People who run our recycling to landfills. Thank you! 🍁

Volunteers of every kind of organization big or small who work tirelessly to get jobs done to fill in areas which aid in an extra pair of hands. Than you for your passion to help in non paid positions just to aid and make life more comfortable and help society along. 🍁Thank You!

People who work in difficult and uncomfortable positions giving aid and comfort to those in need on the streets.
You may be pastoral, shelter workers, Red Cross, Salvation Army or other grass roots organization who feed people and give people dignity when people are down and out. Thank you🍁

So let us think about all the people today that are working jobs and answering their calling in emergency departments, ambulance driver and medical staff airport crews to pilots, bus drivers and taxis, security staff , dispatchseniour and special home care, hospital and senior care workers to all emergency personal running the behind the scenes positions, making it possible for others to get together! 🍁Thank You!

While many are celebrating and feeling the wonderful feeling of togetherness let us all remember to be kind, give a smile or just a compliment or stop and give a small thank you!

This small recognition for what they do in life or why THEY matter to you for that person feeling alone! Might mean the world to them! 🥰

People of all walks and stages of life have felt alone at times for whatever reason! night shift workers, essential care workers, elders, people going through their own struggles right now; friends/family members helping the sick or dying, people struggling with mental health, people that might be going through divorce, separation and have lost family or close friends. People facing anniversary dates of loss of cherished people in their lives find family holidays especially hard.

University/college students, people who are new to the province or to our country and not able to afford the time or money to get back home. Let’s remember them and try to connect them more🍁

And the many people who just can’t seem to connect and be social or physical challenges making it hard to get around maybe people who do not even have a place to call home or a bed to sleep in find the holidays tough🍁extra kindness and compassion is needed in letting them know, they matter!

One of the greatest gifts that we can bestow on one another is kindness in whatever way we can.

For Robert and I in our new community of Hope River, PEI we HOPE to connect to our children, grandchildren and our many friends across Canada that we can not touch in person this year.

We are thankful to our new friends and all of the people who have supported us in our craft and work in our new community and have been following us on our new journey together!❤️

❤️You lift us up as we build together and move forward in this new life here on PEI!

We are thankful we have each other to lean on at this stage of life!
