At Knit Pickers in beautiful Cavendish, PEI, you will find a host of gorgeous handmade goods that are environmentally friendly and add a touch of luxury in your life. In addition to our merino wool sweaters and knitted accessories, we are home to the new "MacEachern tartan" - designed by Margaret McEachern and registered in 2013 with the Scottish Tartan Authority. We also carry nourishing sheep's milk soap handcrafted in rural PEI. A new line of Island-made natural bath and body care products are arriving daily. All natural bees wax candles, containing no paraffin or lead, clean the air and support the efforts of our Canadian honeybees to keep our gardens and farms healthy and productive. Short rows are a handy technique to have in your repertoire. They are used to create a more comfortable neckline on a sweater, to turn the heel of a sock, to add bust darts....You can create short rows using the "wrap and turn" method, but my preferred go-to is the "German Short Row". If you are unfamiliar with this technique, I hope this video will prove helpful to you!

What a fun and informative day we had yesterday. Guest instructor, designer and author Julie Ann Lebouthillier with Twin Stitches Designs in New Brunswick led us through a workshop on knitting math in the morning, followed by a workshop in the afternoon on how to knit the perfect sweater. We also enjoyed a delicious lunch at Captains Cove Cafe. The afternoon wrapped up with a book signing. If you missed out, I do have some signed copies of both of Julie Ann's books - Knit a Box of Socks and Knit a Box of Christmas Socks.

I need to have a bit of a rant. It's only 12:30 pm and I'm ready to shut it down for the day.
My phone rang this morning an hour before opening. My voice mail message clearly states my hours of operation. The lady came to the house anyway and knocked on the door, wanting me to open early for her. I couldn't - I was on a conference call and only answered the door because I thought it might have been a delivery that I needed to sign for.
Fast forward a couple of hours. A woman pulls up and goes to the house, tries all of the locked doors, peers in every single window on the main floor. I think it would be fairly obvious, after peering through the first window and seeing my living room and cats, that my house is not the studio. But, no, she continues to peer in every single window. So I call out to her from the studio. She then chastises me, saying I should have the open flag flying on the studio (if I did that, the flag would not be visible from the road). I told her that most people have no difficulty seeing the big sign on the studio building and, after her first peek, she should have realised that she was looking into my home. She got quite incensed and stormed out.
Yes, I operate a retail studio on my property. But I also deserve some privacy. Please respect my hours - do not expect me to open up any time someone drives up. Everyone who works deserves to enjoy their time away from work, to be able to rest, relax, or even do the requisite housework without the expectation that we are here to "serve" at all hours. And please respect my personal privacy and do not peer into the windows of my home!!!

Thank-you for allowing me to vent, and for understanding why folks involved in the tourism industry are emotionally exhausted by the end of the "season".
