Soper Creek Yarn Where Beautiful Projects Begin! Located in Historic Village of Orono. A bright shop filled with everything you need to complete a knitting project.

Great gifts for your knitting friends too! The Shop opened at 80 King Street West, Bowmanville on December 1st, 2008 and in June 2013 we expanded into the shop next door, doubling the space. In 2019 we downsized the shop and moved everything to a 1920"s Bank Building, with vaults still inside, in the beautiful Village of Orono, Ontario.

Why make just one pair?

I did some research for you and dug into the stash to see if 3 skeins of Koigu KPPPM would make a pair of nice warm mittens. This ‘grey marble’ pair took just under 3 skeins, they are the large size with a 3 inch cuff. (The pattern suggests 4 inches.)

I thought they could use some embellishments, but that would make them right and left handed.

The pattern is Tin Can knits ‘World’s simplest Mitten’, a free design on Ravelry and on the Tin Can knits app!

Happy Thanksgiving weekend!

This weekend we celebrate and remember those who provide us with our food!
There are some out there harvesting this year’s crops this weekend.

Around us here in Clarington farmers are harvesting; Apples, Broccoli, Cabbages, Onions, soybeans, sunflower seeds, potatoes, corn, and so much more! (Wheat, Oats, and other grains are already in the food chain!)

Have a great weekend!

My Mom’s family were makers.

This slightly blurry photo shows her working on a project with her Mother, and 2 younger siblings.

Today would have been her birthday.
Happy Birthday Mom.

(Thanks for teaching me how to knit!)

Throwback Thursday!

It’s Socktober!

Last year I finished this pair of self striping socks. They are designed to make two identical socks. To get them to look like mine you need to knit the pair by doing the leg section until the heel colour starts, then knit the heel, break the colour and begin knitting the foot with rest of the striped bit. When the sock is long enough to knit the toe you might need to break the striped bit to get to the toe colour.

It works.
The yarn is on sale on the website. It is a great yarn, very smooth and makes a great sock!

Packing up orders today and this one is so inspiring!
Imagine the possibility of using all this colour!

I wonder if it’s one project or many?

Thanks for all your orders!

Sorting the boxes in storage has been quite a challenge. As boxes empty there are always a few stragglers. They are taken off the web site and they are saved for the Grab Bags.

To keep things simple, there are only 12 listed at a time. As they sell through there are more added. If there is one that has been there too long the price drops! (Like a Dutch Auction) If the Grab Bag doesn’t sell through at a discounted price, and it’s been on the page too long it gets donated to a charity. (I have a couple that use in my favourites.)

So far the Grab Bags have been just yarn, but I may add other notions too!

Hope you find a bargain that you love!

Throwback Thursday?

This was a post from 2 years ago, TheFarmer just had his surgery and was at home recovering. The Grandpuppy and I were out for a morning walk, enjoying a new day!

There is something about the end of a season, knowing that we should enjoy the warm sunny days while we can!

Time to check those warm woolly items that we will need, hopefully not too soon!

A quick trip to visit TheGirls before combining starts!

There was a bit of knitting, not as much as usual. There was a sunset to watch, goats to feed, fairy houses to admire, have a staring contest with an alpaca, pumpkins to inspect, and visit Pat the Farmer made by Margaret when BigSis arrived. (Not sure about the details, Margaret likes to do her own thing!)

Orders will be packaged tomorrow!

I do love the Mitten pattern by Tin Can knits! (The World’s Simplest Mittens)

Finished Project!

I started these socks in January. They have traveled with me to various locations. This week I was determined to finish them. There are a lot of UFO’s in my queue.

The pattern is a free design on Ravelry.

The yarn is beautiful. It is so soft, a great yarn for knit worthy friend. The yarn is divided into 2 50 gram skeins, great for those who do a toe up sock. I made them a bit shorter as the yardage is a bit less, but there is a bit leftover.

Do I use the bits for another scarf or add to the mitten collection?
