It’s another week of Art Wellness Wednesdays, and this is today’s community collaboration.

I attached the text below that I wrote last week, because I can’t say it better than that. I am delighted with these projects, the last two weeks, and excited to come up with different ways to adapt them week to week to create a really interesting series over 12 weeks. ☺️❤️

———

This inspiring group runs Wednesdays from 11-1 at art space at 20 King East in Cobourg, and is made possible with funding and support from CMHA

Today, I showed up with a bunch of cardboard pieces that I had cut out at home. I left them on the table and just asked people to doodle all over them however they felt appropriate.

I didn’t tell them what the final product was. I then was able to assemble the pieces within our session, and this is how it turned out.

This is what it looks like, when a group of people sit down together, and create something from the heart . Even without knowing what the final product was, the drawings and doodles came together perfectly.

I look forward to making many more collaborative pieces during this session. I am so grateful to be a part of something so wonderful.

Art is the universal healer, connector, and magic–maker. ❤️

Please, feel free to stop in and say hello if you find yourself downtown Cobourg on Wednesdays between 11 and 1. We’d love to show you what we’re working on.

Tomorrow is my one and only market of 2023. You’ll find me at the Cobourg Lions Centre from 11-3, with 50 amazing artists and makers for the .co Holiday Market.

I’ll tell you a truth: I was absolutely struggling with feeling festive and jolly this season. It’s hard to get into the spirit of making holiday art so far ahead of the holiday.

And, there’s a lot going on in our community and in our world that makes this year feel a bit heavier than usual.

So, I was really to figure out how to make a pile of holiday ornaments for this market.

And then, a couple weeks ago, I went to the most beautiful art market, run by young artists in our community

Seeing their work made me remember that heartfelt work comes from the soul, and has nothing to do with the commercialism of the season. It comes from the joy of creating itself.

So I went back to my roots , and made a collection of decorations to be used during the holiday, (or anytime!), based on my personal “church”: nature.

I will also have some free art-making opportunities set up for anyone who comes by and wants to partake at my table. Because making art with other people is what makes my soul sing

(And honestly… I love these clay mushrooms I made, possibly the most of anything I’ve created before ! )

so I hope you will come out tomorrow and see me, and many other dozens of wonderful local artists and makers. it’s always a perfectly curated show, with free entry and lots of parking. Remember, when you buy from a local maker, you’re making one of your neighbours holidays brighter.

So, happy December. However, you choose to celebrate, I hope it’s a beautiful month to wrap up this year. ❤️

Thank you for SO many registrations for these ornament making sessions!

This is a friendly reminder that three sessions are totally full, and many of these are getting close.

In addition to that, I have cut a few sessions, because SO many people have booked me privately for their work/organization/classroom.

My favourite thing is when a group of friends books a big session together… with or without their kids! This is a great opportunity to do something fun and creative before the holidays, make some thing, festive and eco-friendly, and it won’t break the bank!

Message me to book your spot, or post, if you have any questions at all!

It’s going to be a very fun month! ❄️🎅🌲

Tis the season!

I made my pilgrimage to my very favourite woodcutter today to source the best local wood slices for holiday ornaments!

So, after an incredibly successful series of workshops in the 2022 season, I am reaching out here to ask for feedback for 2023 .

What do you want to see? Youth workshops? Parent and child workshops? Licensed evening adult workshops? Private parties? Workplace activity? In-school?

There are so many options! I will be planning workshops between mid November and mid December. I will also be keeping my 2022 prices, because we all know how tight budgets are this year. And I just want to make sure everyone has access to holiday cheer.

Let me know when comments if you would attend? Or attend again!

Can’t wait to make some more handmade holiday magic this year. 🎄

Hi everyone!! 😊💕

Today marks the start of another amazing session of “art for wellness”.

This program is facilitated by myself, funded by , with space and resources donated from . It operates on Wednesdays, in downtown Cobourg.

For our first session of the season, we talked about what an inclusive community means to us, while working on our own piece of this collage.

No one knew what the quote said until each person’s piece was brought together at the end.

“Art is the highest form of Hope”
(Gerhard Richter)

I feel immense privilege to be a part of this program for a third cycle. If you, or someone, you know, could benefit from an art wellness group, or just to connect with a CMHA staff member about the supports they offer in Northumberland, please message me, or pop-in to 20 King Street East on Wednesdays from 11-1.

❤️

This is one of my art pieces for the “thrifted” art show, that starts tomorrow! (I made three different pieces!)

By all accounts, this project has been a total success already, and it hasn’t even launched yet.

So many artists from across the region signed up to take part. And, from my sneak peek it stands to be a really fun art show, with over 100 pieces submitted.

I chose to work with discarded toy parts, from deep within the abyss of the bins at the thrift store.

To me, these pieces are most at risk of being thrown out and ending up in a landfill.

On their own, none of these toy parts are very exciting. But when collected together, it certainly creates a visually striking piece of art. 👀😂🌈

Sales of all the pieces from this art show will go to support the amazing work at . (💙💙💙)

Show opens on August 12th, at the and runs until Aug 26th.

Can’t wait to see this huge collection displayed together. (And take a few home!?) 👀❤️👏

I am voting for this to be an annual event! Who’s with me!? 🌈😊

I have had the enormous joy of working at the building for the last few weeks.

This mural took me about 40 hours to paint and it was the happiest project ever.

The team and folks who use the lounge space cheered me (literally!) every step of the way.

The campers from art week added their own pieces and suggestions, and, in the end, there are 18 hidden “secrets” on the mural representing things that were important to people in the Community Living circle.

The palette was chosen carefully for a relaxed vibe assisted by the great team at in Port Hope.

This was my biggest art project ever and I am happy to say that I am not done painting in this building. More community murals to come!

The work done at Community Living and Respite Northumberland is game changing for the people it serves (including my son who gets to attend summer camp there). The people who work there dedicate their lives to supporting children, youth, and adults with disabilities, and their families to live inclusive and fulfilling lives in their community.

I am so grateful this organization exists and honoured to spend time working in their company. 💙
