A Little Piece of Jasper

Some places stay with you long after you leave.

Jasper was one of those places. 🏔️❄️
A little cold, a lot beautiful, and another memory I’m grateful we chose to keep. ❤️🐾

Another little memory I chose to keep living.

A Little Memory I Chose to Keep Living ❤️

You might have noticed that I’ve started ending my little stories and adventures with this sentence:

“A little memory I chose to keep living.”

It sounds simple, but it carries a lot of meaning for me.

Life has reminded me more than once how quickly everything can change.

There was a time when I walked away from a terrible car accident that left half of my car completely wrecked. The police told me I was lucky to have a guardian angel watching over me. Somehow, I walked away without a scratch or a broken bone.

Then came sickness, major surgeries, medications, and another chapter of life I never expected.

And somehow… I’m still here.

So I started looking at life differently.

I don’t want to wait for the perfect time to enjoy it. I don’t want to save every beautiful dress for a special occasion. 😂👗 I don’t want to keep saying, “Maybe someday.”

I want to go hiking.
I want to see another mountain.
I want to eat something delicious at a food festival.
I want to laugh until my stomach hurts with my friends.
I want to spend time with my family.
I want to take ridiculous pictures in ridiculous flowy dresses. 🤣
I want to collect little moments that make me happy.

Not every memory has to be extraordinary.

Sometimes it’s just a beautiful view.
A good meal.
A silly conversation.
A spontaneous adventure.
A picnic with friends.
A sunset.
A laugh that we didn’t plan.

Those little moments are life too.

I don’t know how many chapters are left in my story, and I’ve learned that none of us really knows. So I’ve decided not to spend my time worrying about the ending.

I’m going to enjoy the page I’m on.

Maybe that’s what this signature really means to me:

I didn’t just capture the moment in a photo.

I chose to be present for it.
I chose to enjoy it.
I chose to remember it.
I chose to keep living it. ❤️

So whenever you see this at the end of my posts, you’ll know what it means.

It’s my little reminder to myself that life doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful.

And if there’s a mountain involved…

bring the damn flowy dress. 🤣👗🏔️

A little memory I chose to keep living. ❤️✨

🌿 Our Little Tradition: The Annual Picnic

Some traditions start with a big plan.

Ours started pretty simply—with people from our section at work, our families, some food, and a desire to spend a day together outside the workplace.

A few years later, that little gathering became something bigger.

Now, everyone at work is welcome, along with their families and loved ones. What started as a small get-together has slowly become our little way of welcoming summer. ☀️🌿

And of course, no picnic is complete without potluck! 😂

Everyone brings something, we put all the food together, and somehow there is ALWAYS enough to feed an army. 🤣 We eat, we share stories, we laugh about things that probably aren’t even that funny—but somehow become hilarious when we’re all together.

The kids have their own fun too. Since we always choose parks around Edmonton’s beautiful river valley, there’s usually a river nearby for them to explore and play around.

Every year, it’s a little different.

Different park.
Different food.
Different stories.
Different people joining us.

But the reason we keep doing it remains the same.

This year was supposed to be a big one.

We planned.
We prepared.
We made the invitations.
We even had our games and prizes ready.

Then the weather had other plans. 🌧️😂

So we rescheduled.

And then something happened at work that made this year’s gathering feel a little different. Attendance wasn’t as big as the previous years, and for a moment, it would have been easy to just let this one go.

But we didn’t.

Because this time, continuing the picnic wasn’t just about tradition.

It was about having something positive to look forward to in the middle of everything going on in our work life.

And you know what?

We still had a wonderful time. ❤️

We ate.
We laughed.
We shared stories.
We caught up with each other.

Maybe the crowd was smaller, but the laughter was still there.

Looking at this picture, I realize that someday, these ordinary moments might become some of our most precious memories.

We don’t know how many more years we’ll all be working together. Eventually, one by one, we’ll retire and move on to the next chapter of our lives.

And I hope that when we’re all sitting somewhere in our senior years, we’ll look back and say:

“Remember those annual picnics?”

We’ll remember the food, the kids playing, the crazy weather, the games, the laughter, and all those people who were once part of our everyday work life.

Maybe we’ll even argue about who brought the best food. 😂

I hope we can keep this little tradition going for a few more years.

Not because we have to.

But because we’re creating memories now that we’ll someday wish we could go back and live again. ❤️

For now, this is just another picnic.

But someday…

it will be one of those stories we’ll tell.

Another little memory I chose to keep living. ❤️

🌿 When Nature Became Our Therapy

There’s something therapeutic about being in nature.

It’s almost like the moment you step into the mountains, the noise in your head gets quieter. Your worries don’t magically disappear, but somehow, they don’t feel as heavy anymore.

I only discovered this during the pandemic.

When everything was closed, there was nowhere to go. We were staying home, ordering everything online, and slowly getting used to a life that none of us had planned for.

Luckily, we live in a province surrounded by beautiful scenery. So we started hiking.

At first, we thought it was simply something to do—a way to get out of the house, breathe some fresh air, and forget for a little while about everything happening in the world.

We didn’t know that it would become something much bigger.

We became addicted. 😂🏔️

Trail after trail, mountain after mountain, we discovered something we didn’t expect: nature is therapeutic.

There is something about walking through the forest, climbing those endless switchbacks, standing beside a turquoise lake, or finally reaching a viewpoint after hours of hiking that makes you feel like you’ve pressed a reset button.

A reset for your body.
A reset for your mind.
A reset for your emotions.

You get tired physically, but somehow you feel lighter inside.

And maybe that’s why we kept going.

Because sometimes you don’t need to run away from your problems. You just need to walk far enough into nature that you remember there is a whole beautiful world outside of them.

Looking at this picture, I think the quote says it all:

“The closer you are to nature, the further you are from stress.”

And after all the trails we’ve walked, the mountains we’ve climbed, the laughs we’ve shared and the memories we’ve collected…

I believe it. ❤️

Maybe hiking started as our pandemic pastime.

But somewhere along the way, it became our therapy, our escape, our happy place—and a beautiful part of our lives. 🏔️🌲

🌄 THE STOP BEFORE THE ADVENTURE
Before almost every hiking adventure, there is a little ritual we seem to repeat.
Wake up ridiculously early.Get in the car.Drive for hours. And eventually someone says…
“Okay, I'm hungry.” 😂
One of our favourite stopovers is where Highway 93 North (Icefields Parkway) meets Highway 11 (David Thompson Highway).
There's a little gift shop and restaurant there, but honestly, that's not the best part.
The best part is simply looking around. 🏔️
Mountains everywhere you look, and on this particular morning, we were lucky enough to catch one of those sunrises that makes you stop whatever you're doing.
The sun was coming up and that golden light was slowly kissing the mountains.
🌄✨
Sunrise is beautiful anywhere, but there is something completely different about watching it in the Rocky Mountains.
The mountains seem to glow.
And for a few minutes, nobody really needs to say anything.
You're just standing there thinking…
Wow.
This video really doesn't do it justice. Not even close.
Some things look beautiful on a screen, but when you're actually standing there, feeling the cold morning air and watching the first light hit those enormous mountains…
it's something else. ❤️
Then, of course, we ate our packed breakfast because apparently admiring nature doesn't stop us from getting hungry. 😂☕🥐
And that's how many of our hiking days begin.
Not at the trailhead.
But somewhere along the road, with a warm breakfast, sleepy eyes, good company, and a beautiful view reminding us why we got up so early in the first place.
Sometimes the journey starts long before the trail does. ❤️
Another little memory I chose to keep living. 🏔️🌄

🌙 Ignite Market: A Little Taste of Summer

There’s just something about a night market that instantly puts you in a good mood.

The moment we arrived at the Ignite Market, we could already feel the energy. The crowded parking lot, the lights, the music, the smell of food trucks cooking all around us… suddenly, you’re hungry even when you weren’t planning to eat. 😂

And honestly, we came to eat anyway. 🤣

The event had everything — food trucks, local vendors, carnival activities, entertainment, games, and lots and lots of people. But even with the crowd, everything was so well organized, which made the whole evening feel relaxed and enjoyable.

The funniest part was running into so many friends and coworkers. It felt like we had all secretly made the same plan without telling each other. 😂 Everywhere we turned, there was another familiar face.

And of course, we had to try the food!

We had the shrimp from Flipstick Food Truck, and OMG… SO GOOD! 🍤 We also tried chicharon from another booth, mini cakes, and Hong Kong milk tea. Everything was a little on the pricey side, but honestly… who cares when it tastes this good? 😂

We even joined some of the spin-to-win games, and somehow, we ALL won something! 🎁 I guess it was our lucky night.

And because apparently we hadn’t eaten enough, we ended the night with Yelo’d ice cream. 🍦 Because every good food adventure needs dessert.

But more than the food, what I loved most was the feeling of the whole evening.

The laughter.
The random conversations.
Meeting friends we hadn’t seen in a while.
Walking around with no particular agenda.
Trying foods we don’t usually eat.
Playing silly games and celebrating little wins.

Sometimes we really don’t need a big vacation or an elaborate plan to make memories.

Our Alberta summers are short. We need more evenings like this — getting outside, relaxing, meeting up with friends, discovering local food, supporting small businesses, and simply enjoying the season while it lasts.

Tonight wasn’t just about going to a night market.

It was about enjoying summer while we still can. ❤️

And yes… we definitely ate a LOT. 🤣🤣🤣

CHASING THE AURORA 💚🩷

Sometimes an adventure doesn’t require a hiking trail, a plane ticket, or a four-hour drive.

Sometimes, all you need is a notification from your phone saying:

“Aurora activity is expected to be very high tonight.” 👀🌌

And of course… I wasn’t going to ignore that. 😂

So my friends and I jumped in the car and drove just outside the city, away from the light pollution, hoping to see the Northern Lights in all their glory.

And WOW.

We didn’t get to see them dancing or moving across the sky the way you sometimes see in those incredible Aurora videos, but honestly, everywhere we looked was beautiful.

Green. Pink. Red. Purple. 🌌💚🩷

The sky looked like someone had taken a giant paintbrush and decided to decorate the whole night.

And naturally, I kept thinking…

“Imagine how much more we could see if we were somewhere completely free from light pollution!” 😂

Maybe someday we’ll chase them somewhere darker.

For now, I’m just grateful that we stopped, looked up, and took the time to enjoy what was right above us.

And the funny thing?

The show wasn’t completely over the next day.

While walking my dog around the neighbourhood, I could still see those beautiful colours lighting up the sky.

A little reminder that sometimes the most beautiful things happen when you simply look up. ❤️

God’s creation really is wonderful. ✨

Another story I chose to keep living. 🌌❤️

This spectacular photo features the breathtaking view of Bow Lake from the upper slopes of Mount Jimmy Simpson Jr. or the Bow Summit Trail area along the Icefields Parkway in Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada.

There is a specific feeling you get when you step out past the tree line, look down at a sea of turquoise glacial water, and realize just how massive this world really is. Standing high above Bow Lake in Banff National Park, with nothing but the mountain breeze and a rock cairn beside me, I knew this was the exact moment I wanted to share with you. Welcome to my very first post!I started this blog because my feet are always restless, and my camera is always full. Travel isn't just about ticking boxes on a bucket list; it's about the early morning wake-up calls, the wrong turns that lead to hidden views, and the sheer joy of standing on a ridge feeling completely alive.Through this space, I'll be sharing detailed trail guides, raw travel lessons, and a look behind the lens of my favorite destinations.

Fast Facts:
Location: Icefields Parkway, Banff National Park (Start at Num-Ti-Jah Lodge / Bow Lake parking)

Distance: ~6.6 km round-trip
Elevation Gain: ~900 meters
Difficulty : Challenging (steep grade, minor route-finding, and bushwhacking required)

The Reward:
While the climb up the standard Bow Summit Viewpoint gives you a classic look at Peyto, pushing onto the peaks overlooking Bow Lake rewards you with total solitude. You bypass the tour buses completely and get a bird's-eye view of the winding highway slicing through pure alpine wildness.

Pro-Tip for First Timers:
The trail is notoriously faint through the initial trees. Bring a downloaded GPS map, wear sturdy hiking boots to deal with loose scree, and look out for small rock cairns (like the one in my photo) to help keep you on the right path.
