This living room wasn’t “wrong.”

It just wasn’t reflecting how the client wanted to feel in her home.

She told me she wanted it lighter. Brighter. Softer.
So instead of changing everything, we focused on light —
Sheer drapery.
A softer palette.
Airier layering.
Less visual weight.

Same home. Same layout.
Completely different feeling.

Design isn’t about replacing everything.
It’s about shifting energy.

A thoughtful evolution.

This home already had beautiful bones — warm floors, natural light, and an open layout that flows seamlessly into the dining area.

The client’s vision was clear:
lighter, brighter, and more cohesive.

Rather than reinventing the space, we refined it.

We softened the palette, layered warm neutrals, and created visual flow through the archway — allowing what was already there to feel intentional.

Design isn’t always about dramatic change.

Vintage pieces have a way of carrying stories, and these Canadian-made snowshoes are no exception. They were gifted to me, and instead of being stored away, I chose to display them as wall décor in my living room.

I love finding beauty in unconventional pieces — items that weren’t originally intended for design but add warmth, character, and a sense of story to a space. These snowshoes bring a nostalgic, natural element that blends seamlessly into a modern organic home.

Thoughtful design isn’t always about buying something new. Sometimes it’s about reimagining what you already have and giving meaningful pieces a place where they can be seen, appreciated, and enjoyed.

Local Artisan Spotlight: Furniture Refinishing – Edmonton, Alberta

I’m so excited to share this stunning dresser that I recently purchased from a local refinishing artist here in Edmonton. The craftsmanship is absolutely beautiful — the finish, the detailing, and the hardware all come together so perfectly. This piece has completely elevated my bedroom and brought such a warm, modern-organic feel to the space.

One of my favourite parts of being a designer is supporting local artisans and showcasing their incredible talent. High-quality, refinished furniture like this adds so much character, longevity, and soul to a home.

Design is so much more than the final reveal.

Before a space looks polished and complete, there are weeks of sourcing, planning, refining, and layering — and scenes like this one.

This is a glimpse into a project I’m currently working on. Every pillow, lamp, textile, and piece of artwork is intentionally selected to support the overall concept, palette, and functionality of the home. Nothing is random. Every detail has a purpose.

The process looks different at every stage:
– developing the vision
– refining the color story
– sourcing and comparing materials
– selecting furniture and décor
– loading (and unloading) every last item
– and finally, bringing it all together in the client’s space

And I genuinely love every part of it — the planning, the sourcing, the problem-solving, and the quiet moments when everything finally comes together and the space transforms.

I haven’t shared this project yet, but I’m excited for the transformation ahead. For now, here’s the reality behind the scenes — thoughtful curation, careful planning, and a vehicle full of the textures and layers that make a home feel complete.

A Special Refinish in Honor of My Uncle Nicky

This dresser is a very meaningful piece to me. I inherited it after my Uncle Nicky passed, and refinishing it felt like the perfect way to preserve something connected to him while giving it a new life in my home.

What started as a worn vintage dresser has now been transformed with rich, warm wood tones, modern matte-black framing, and polished original brass hardware. I wanted the finished piece to reflect both the character of the original craftsmanship and the elevated, organic style at the heart of Olive & Earth.

Projects like this remind me why I love what I do — design has the power to hold memories, tell stories, and give old pieces a fresh purpose.

I’m so excited to share this recent staging project — and the incredible results it achieved.

This beautiful home was thoughtfully staged by Olive & Earth Sustainable Design to highlight its natural light, flow, and architectural features while creating a warm, modern-organic atmosphere that buyers could immediately connect with.
From layered textiles and curated artwork to subtle seasonal styling, every room was designed to feel inviting, elevated, and move-in ready.

The Result:
After going live on the market, the home received 16 offers and sold $21,000 above asking in just 48 hours.

Local Artist Spotlight: Lanh Doan Portraits

I’m so excited to share a beautiful collaboration for an upcoming project.
The incredibly talented Lanh Doan () created a stunning 18 x 24" Pan Pastel portrait of this sweet pup, Hank — and it turned out absolutely exceptional.

Lanh is a local portrait artist who specializes in pet and people portraits, as well as unique character and horror-inspired artwork. His ability to capture emotion, personality, and softness in his pieces is unmatched. This portrait brings so much warmth and heart into the space, and I can’t wait to reveal the full project soon.

Supporting local creators is a core part of my design philosophy, and partnerships like this are why — handcrafted, meaningful art has a way of enriching a home in a way nothing else can.

The Green Family Residence

Every home tells a story, and this concept was designed to begin a new chapter for a family ready to transform their living space with warmth, depth, and timeless character. Rooted in the Olive & Earth design philosophy, this room brings together natural textures, thoughtful craftsmanship, and a palette inspired by organic, grounding tones.

The vision blends classic structure with soft, modern comfort—creating a room that feels collected, balanced, and deeply livable. Warm neutrals set the foundation while layers of navy, olive, and natural stone add richness and a sense of calm. Each finish, fabric, and detail was selected to age gracefully, support everyday life, and create a space that feels both elevated and welcoming.

Design Intent & Features:

🌿 Warm Architectural Envelope
Soft greige walls & tonal millwork create a gentle, light-reflective backdrop for texture and colour to stand out naturally.

🌿 Stone Fireplace as Anchor
The textured rundle-stone surround introduces weight and authenticity, grounding the entire room with an organic focal point.

🌿 Signature Olive & Earth Textures
• Performance linen sofa in a warm neutral
• Velvet olive swivel chairs for sculptural comfort
• Reclaimed wood coffee table for rustic soul
• Heavy linen drapery layered with sheers for movement & softness

🌿 Curated Palette
Deep navy, olive green, warm wood, brushed brass, and natural stone—an earthy yet refined colour story designed to endure beyond trends.

🌿 Lighting with Presence
A brass + crystal chandelier adds a touch of quiet luxury, complemented by a picture light and sconces for layered evening ambience.

A navy and cream rug grounds the space with traditional influence, reinforcing a sense of history and permanence.

Vintage-inspired artwork, tactile ceramics, and an indoor olive tree complete the room with warmth and natural balance.
