Fibre, and Pumpkins and Pies…Oh My!

Good Morning Fibre Friends - HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

We hope you’re having a spectacular weekend of autumn style fun, thanksgiving cheer and good company. Yesterday, we decided to take grandma on a road trip to London to personally deliver a load of yarn to one of our favourite stores, London Yarns - where they’ll be carrying a bunch of our colourways (more to come on that - check out their upcoming newsletter)

I like to wander west…based on the compass and some country roads and see what I see. Our first stop ended up being in the wee town of Shakespeare where the Shakespeare Pies resides! These are the best Mennonite pies in Ontario! We bought FOUR for dinner tomorrow (and couldn’t resist a few butter tarts to boot!). We got apple, pumpkin, elderberry and lemon meringue! (My mom snuck an extra pecan pie to take home….shhhhhh!). The lines were long but efficiently handled and I’ve never seen so many pies in one place before…so many delicious pies!

After that we continued wandering west where I re-found an old friend - the pumpkin farmer where, three years ago I bought a 350lb pumpkin (previously I thought I forgot where he was but am thrilled to now know his actual address…let’s write that down!) Someone snagged his last ginormous gourd just as we got there - but he still had a bunch of 100lb pumpkins….so I got three! Ha! That’ll keep the boys busy for a while for sure!

Finally, after many roundabouts, a beautiful view of fall leaves changing and a ton of farm stands…we made it to London Yarns where Abby greeted us with much excitement and we delivered their yarn! It’s such a lovely store, with knowledgeable staff and I was tickled to see a few samples already done up in my yarn! They work fast over there…and can answer any questions…and have a lovely assortment of yarn, needles and notions! My favourite row counter EVER was purchased there!

Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy your weekend…I know I did! Now off to prepare the turkeys (yup, we are doing two as the guest list is long this year…but I know I have enough pies!!!)

Coffee time and heading home - it’s the most beautiful of fall days. Autumnal glory is in full swing…makes me want to get back to my dyeing pots!

Good bye Yurt, we had so much fun! I’ll miss you hot tub! Farewell deer, and turkeys and horse! The morning light and lillypads….the red squirrel who kept nailing our roof with high speed nuts - it was a fabulous workcation!

And best of all, we made new Fibre Friends at the Ontario East Fibre Fest! Thank you so much for all your hard work - this event was huge and pulled off flawlessly. So to the organizers, volunteers, farmers, vendors, event location and locals - THANK YOU! We tip our toque to you…a job well done!

Poor Dan - looking at our “Nighty Night to Yurt Life” video….he sounded soooooo tired! We brought a lot of yarn and he had to pack up the whole booth….but, we had a DARN good time Fibre Friends!

Last night we had a fun drive home to the Yurt after the Ontario East Fibre Fest - it was a BLAST (both the festival and the drive….and the yurt)!!!!

It’s so lovely when the locals come out to say good morning! Sadly, I missed getting a shot of the wild turkeys, herons, ducks and fox….tomorrow, we try again!
