I love the intention of reusable bags, but yikes, they seem to multiply at an alarming rate!

✨✨
Do a quick inventory and see how many you REALLY need. The rest? Make sure they are clean, in good shape and you can donate them to some food banks.

✨✨
This week, most of us will do a larger than normal food shop for Thanksgiving. If you have loads of unused bags, it likely a sign that you have too many. If you’re able to buy a bit extra, pop it into those bags and drop off some food at your local food bank.

👗 October’s Today is Someday Challenge- Wear the Fancy Outfit Just Because

✨✨The outfit you adore but never wear?

This is your sign: put. it. on.

And October might just be the perfect time.

The weather is still giving us a few warm, sunny days—so if there’s a summer dress you barely got to wear this year, wear it. One more time. Just because.

Or maybe you’re pulling out your fall clothes and rediscovering that sweater, those boots, that jacket you’ve been waiting to wear.

Don’t save it for the “right” day.

There doesn’t have to be a dinner reservation.
A special occasion.
Somewhere important to go.

Dance in it.
Cook in it.
Run errands in it.
Answer emails in it.

Wear the thing that makes you feel good while you’re living your actual life.

Because the sweet spot isn’t someday.

It’s today.

And if you’ve been saving something you love for a future version of yourself, consider this your permission slip:

Wear the joy.

Time to:
👉 Check your warm outerwear. Did you wash it in the spring before you forgot it in the closet? If so, time to do that now before you REALLY need it!
👉 Have a look through your woolly accessories. What needs replacing? What still sparks joy? A quick look now may stop a splurge at the store.
👉 Get those donations ready. Whatever you’re letting go, consider doing it now so that warm items can be used this winter.

My Weck Jar video was quite popular, so I’m following it up with some storage container tips!

Here are my Top 5 things to consider when choosing storage containers for your home:

Go clear when you can. 👀
If you can see what you have, you’re more likely to use it — and less likely to buy duplicates!

Measure FIRST. 📏
Measure the space where the containers will actually live — including height, width and depth. Don’t fall in love with a container that won’t fit!

Think about access.
Can you easily get things in and out? A beautiful container that requires you to unpack the entire shelf every time isn’t doing you any favours.

Repurpose before you purchase. ♻️
Look around your home! You may already have baskets, jars, bins or boxes that can be given a second life.

Choose function over aesthetics.
The prettiest container isn’t necessarily the best container. Think about what you’re storing, how often you use it, and what will make your life easier.

✨ Remember: storage containers should serve your stuff — not the other way around.

Save this for the next time you’re tempted by the storage aisle! 😉

📄 Today is Someday September Challenge – Get Your Future in Order

Your future self has a favor to ask.

Please, for the love of all things organized, tell them where the important paperwork is.

September’s Today is Someday is about the less-fun kind of “someday” — the one where someone needs to know what you want, where things are, and what to do next.

✨ Make or update your will.
✨ Organize your important documents.
✨ Have the conversation.
✨ Make it easier for the people you love.

Is it a little uncomfortable? Yep.
Is it morbid? Nope.
Is it one of the most loving things you can do? ABSOLUTELY.

Because joy isn’t just using the nice dishes today.

Sometimes, joy is giving your future self, (and the people you love most), peace of mind. ❤️

Unabashed plug: I give a presentation called “Leaving a Legacy of Love – Not Clutter”, all about getting the practical stuff in order so your loved ones aren’t left sorting through confusion along with everything else.

Know an organization that would be interested? Send me a DM!

These jars from weckjars have been for me. I love that there’s no plastic, they are water and air tight, that you can freeze things and they are stackable!!🙌 Plus the kids are interchangeable which makes my heart happy!

I buy mine Canadian Tire but they are easily sourced from other retailers.

*This post is not sponsored. These are really my jars and I really use them!

The Organized Kid Project Week 5: The Trial Run 🎒✨
We’ve spent the last five weeks building little habits that can make a BIG difference when school starts:
🍽️ Week 1: Helping tidy the kitchen
🧺 Week 2: Taking ownership of laundry
🎒 Week 3: Thinking about what they need + packing their own bags
✨ Week 4: Creating a little spark joy space that’s just theirs
And now for Week 5…
Let’s treat the next few weeks as a trial run.
School doesn’t have to be the first time your child is expected to remember their things, get themselves organized, manage their belongings, or take responsibility for everyday tasks.
Give them a chance to practice now, while there’s still time to figure out what works (and what definitely doesn’t 😂).
Maybe they forget their water bottle.
Maybe their bag takes 20 minutes to pack.
Maybe the laundry system needs tweaking.
Maybe they need a visual checklist, a reminder, or a little more support.
That’s the point.
We’re not aiming for perfection. We’re giving them opportunities to practice while the stakes are low — so that when school rolls around, these routines feel a little more familiar and a little less overwhelming.
Think of these next few weeks as your family’s dress rehearsal for school. 🎭
Let them try. Let them forget. Let them problem-solve. Let them find their own way.
Because the goal of The Organized Kid Project was never to create kids who are perfectly organized.
It’s to help raise kids who feel capable, confident, and increasingly independent. 💛
What will you let your child practice independently before school starts?
