DID YOU KNOW?
Hall’s Harbour is home to some pretty amazing people. ❤️
Our little community on the Bay of Fundy is not only a place of spectacular tides, beautiful scenery and incredible sunsets—it is also home to artists, photographers, authors, entrepreneurs and craftspeople whose talents reach far beyond our harbour. And what makes us especially proud is that these talented people are not just creating beautiful things… they are part of the heart of our community.
When our community needs a helping hand, they are often among the first to step forward. Whether it is raising funds for our Community Centre, supporting our Volunteer Fire Department, helping with our Waterfront Climate Change Adaptation work, or contributing to another community cause, their generosity and willingness give back means so much.
At Parker’s General Store, we feel incredibly fortunate to showcase the work of 35+ local artists and makers. We believe local art should be enjoyed, shared and accessible—and that supporting a local artist means supporting the community we all call home.
So, over the coming weeks, we'd like to introduce you to some of the talented people behind the creations you will find right here at Parker’s.
Today, we'd like to introduce you to two very special Hall’s Harbour artists—Edwin Hollett and Chris Jagt.
🎨 EDWIN HOLLETT
Edwin is well known for his vibrant ships and seascapes, but his creativity doesn't stop at the water's edge. His work includes wildlife, including eagles, horses and even the excitement and movement of a horse race. There is something wonderfully alive in Edwin’s paintings. Movement—or the anticipation of movement—is often at the heart of his work. Working primarily in watercolour and acrylic, along with some oils, Edwin’s artwork has found its way into galleries and collections throughout Nova Scotia, Montreal and across Canada. His ability to capture the character and history of our region is something truly special.
And we love Edwin’s philosophy when it comes to making art available to people right here at home: His prices are “Hall’s Harbour” prices—not “Gallery” prices. ❤️
That is exactly the kind of spirit we love at Parker’s General Store.
CHRIS JAGT
Several years ago, Chris and his wife Amber made Hall’s Harbour their home—and wow, are we ever glad they did! From the beginning, both Chris and Amber became involved in our community and have contributed their time, energy and talents to many local projects.
Chris's art is something a little different. His work explores the emotional undercurrents and quiet moments of everyday life. Rather than simply trying to reproduce exactly what the eye sees, Chris allows colour, movement and contrast to communicate something deeper. What we find particularly special about Chris is that he brings his own emotions and feelings into each creation. And somehow, those feelings have a way of reaching out and speaking to the person standing in front of the painting. That is a rare quality in art.
Two artists. Two very different styles. One wonderful community.
We are so proud to have Edwin, Chris and so many other talented local creators represented at Parker’s General Store. The original works featured here are available at the Store, along with creations from our many other local artists and makers.
Come in. Take your time. Look around. You never know what—or WHO—you might discover. And remember, when you purchase something made by a local artist, you aren't just buying a beautiful piece of art. You are helping keep creativity, talent and community alive right here at home.
