Alright, alright, alright!

Here is the final product in its new home and a reference shot from my shop.

Custom face grain walnut counter top with cut out for an undermount sink and a mitred corner.

This project turned out really well and the client was thrilled with the result. This old dog learned a few new tricks while working beyond his comfort zone.

Custom work isn't quick and custom work isn't cheap but custom work can deliver a one of a kind addition to your home.

Here is my latest commission in my messy shop . This one pushed me a little out of my comfort zone. Hadn't done a before. Hadn't done a mitre of this proportion (thanks ). Hadn't done a sink cut out for an undermount sink.

A wonderful client reached out to say she was designing her kitchen make over and would like me to make a walnut counter top. I paid a visit to Scott at and picked through all of the stock on his shelving.

Many hours of milling and dominoing and glueing and cutting and dominoing and glueing and sanding and sanding and sanding and sanding once more for good measure and then lovely slathering it all in 2CPure before it gets to the stage in the photos.

The extra time to lay out the boards to match up grain and sapwood and to add dominos in to help line up the initial panels and the to add additional dominos along the mitre seam will help keep this burly, beautiful, 1-9/16 thick walnut wonder happy and handsome on its corner for years to come.

I asked a lot of people a lot of questions. I watched a lot of videos. I got help from friends and family. It took a village to make this counter top so thank you everyone for all of your knowlege and your efforts and thank you to the client for trusting me with such a key part of their kitchen.

If I am on point I will get back to get some photos once the final touches are complete.

Here is a I made last month from New Brunswick Black Cherry.

I was able to utilize the sapwood to mimic (as best I could) the ventral grooves on the whales throat.

Its about 3ft long.

I think it turned out pretty good.

Occasionally, chores like cutting firewood preclude dedicating extensive time in the shop, however I have been having a whale of a time betwixt chores!

I created a couple driftwood whales (and a boat) and for something the same but different a whale made from New Brunswick cherry.
