Gloria Steinem, 1934–2026.

From our collection: Ms. magazine, Vol. 1, No. 1, July 1972 — “Wonder Woman for President.”

A remarkable piece of publishing history.

Come for the vinyl. Leave with a record, a beer sign, a clock, and a lamp you didn’t know you needed. 🎶

One of our regulars brought us this vintage “Antique Pox” warning and naturally it earned a place of honour behind the till.

Judging by how many people we know who have started collecting, buying, trading, or selling old things, it appears Antique Pox is still spreading 😱

There is no known cure. Recommended treatment: attend as many antique sales and shops as possible.

By the time your friends start bringing you vintage jokes about antiques, it may already be too late 😂 oops!

Inventory! We call it inventory 😂

Old stamps, spare lids, tiny dishes, mystery pieces and all the little things we’re absolutely certain will come in handy someday.

What are you digging through first?

Pretty as a pitcher… 😍

Three pitchers, three very different looks.

We have Bull’s Eye and Fan, Portholes and Propellers, and that glorious green swirl with the applied handle taking centre stage.

Which one are you choosing: left, middle, or right?

There’s something about being surrounded by old things that makes you wonder about the stories they’ve carried.

Sometimes a change in perspective is all you need to see things in a new light. ✨

Sometimes the most interesting part of an old postcard is on the back...

This old postcard shows the north end of Kootenay Lake near Lardeau.

The photograph is wonderful on its own, but flip it over and there’s another little piece of history waiting there: a handwritten message in French. It appears to be the 4th in a series of postcards sent in a parcel.

More than a century later, somebody’s ordinary correspondence has become part of the story of this place.

We can make out bits and pieces of the writing, but old French letterforms + faded pencil + all the French is giving us a bit of a workout 😂

Any French speakers want to take a crack at it?

This one isn’t for sale. We just think pieces of local history like this are worth sharing.

🎶 One of these things is not quite like the others… 🎶

When most of us hear the words "milk glass", we probably picture solid opaque white glass. But once you start looking a little closer, it gets more complicated than that.

Some pieces show what collectors call a “ring of fire” when held up to a strong light. It's that reddish-orange glow around the thinner edges. The vase and smoke bell here both have it as examples.

Other pieces stay much more solid and opaque. We even have a Westmoreland piece with its original “Westmoreland Milk Glass” label that *doesn’t* show that same fiery glow.

And then there’s that creamy little cup… 👀

That one is actually clambroth glass! a softer, more translucent type of white glass that some collectors include under the broader milk-glass umbrella while others distinguish separately altogether. Either way, it definitely doesn’t behave quite like the rest of this group when you put it to the light.

Two of our favourite people, longtime glass collectors who taught us a lot over the years, always told us to put white glass up to the light to reveal its true colours. Turns out we probably should have been putting it under a UV light too… 😂

Because that little clambroth cup had one more surprise for us.
