"Hazelnut Crunch Praline Cake
Ingredients:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup chopped hazelnuts, toasted
For the Praline Topping:
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 cup chopped hazelnuts, toasted
Instructions:
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
3. In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
4. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
6. Gently fold in the toasted hazelnuts.
7. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
8. For the praline topping, combine the sugar and water in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves, then bring to a boil without stirring. Cook until the mixture turns a golden amber color.
9. Remove from heat and quickly stir in the toasted hazelnuts. Pour the mixture onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and let it cool completely. Once set, break into pieces.
10. Once the cake has cooled, top it with the hazelnut praline pieces.
