🔐 CARRYING THE TRADE INTO THE NEXT GENERATION
In this picture you see our son, Judah Schellenberg is continuing his journey toward becoming a Journeyperson Locksmith.
But his education in this trade started long before the classroom.
For the past 10 years, he's been standing beside his Dad — learning, working, watching, asking questions and getting his hands dirty alongside the man, the myth, the legend… Screwy Louie himself! 😄🔐
Something many people may not realize is that locksmithing is a skilled trade in Alberta — and becoming a Journeyperson Locksmith takes a significant amount of education and hands-on training.
To complete the apprenticeship, a locksmith apprentice works through:
🔑 3 years of apprenticeship training
🔑 4,680 hours of hands-on, on-the-job training
🔑 24 weeks of technical classroom education
🔑 3 levels of apprenticeship training
🔑 Theory examinations along the way
🔑 Documented competency in the skills of the trade
Those thousands of hours are spent learning much more than how to cut keys.
Locksmithing involves understanding locks and door hardware, master key systems, access control, troubleshooting, installation, repair, security and the responsibility that comes with being trusted with people's homes, businesses and property.
For us, though, this is about more than the hours and the certificate.
When Screwy Louie's began, we were building a business to provide for our family and serve the people around us. We didn't know exactly what it would become all these years later.
And now, after 10 years of working beside his dad, we get to watch our son take everything he's learned through those years of hands-on experience and continue building on it through his formal apprenticeship education.
We're proud of you, son.
Keep learning.
Keep working hard.
