CLOSED TODAY

September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Today, we honour the children who were taken from their families and communities, the Survivors who continue to carry the impacts of residential schools, and those who never came home.

As a tribal organization serving Mi’kmaq communities across Nova Scotia, the Union of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq (UNSM) is committed to supporting our communities in carrying forward truth, healing, culture and reconciliation. Through our programs, services and partnerships, we work to create opportunities that strengthen Mi’kmaq voices, language, culture and community connection.

Today, we invite everyone to listen, learn and reflect . Wear orange, support Indigenous-led initiatives, and help carry the work of reconciliation forward, today and every day.

Took a nice drive yesterday to pick up my new knife from Adam at Blackrock Forge... Love all of his work, but simply could not resist those killer copper scales! Adam is a very talented blacksmith - an artisan really - and a super nice guy too!

Christmas is coming, and I am sure you know someone who would be absolutely thrilled to get some of his work. Buying from someone like Adam is truly shopping local as he and his young family spend the money made from his craft all over the Valley - and that beloved gift that you bought for someone dear to you ends up helping out many other local folks along the way... ❤️

You can see his work here on Facebook (Blackrock_forge), through his Website (https://www.blackrockforge.ca/), or at any of the sales he will be participating in throughout the Fall (the Hants County Exhibition this weekend for example)...

We're counting down in hours!

Right now, it’s 17,000 square feet of empty arena floor.

Today, the floor plan went down in chalk.

In less than 48 hours, the vendors will start the load-in — and this blank space begins its transformation into the Halifax Oddities & Curiosities Show.

Tables. Displays. Bones. Art. Antiques. Taxidermy. Strange treasures. Curious objects. And more than 100 vendors bringing the weird, wonderful and wonderfully unnecessary to life.

For the moment, it’s just chalk lines and an empty room.

Not for long.

THIS SATURDAY!!!!

VENDOR PROFILE / Step into Eclectica Antiques and things get strange very quickly. Welcome Steve back to the Halifax Oddities & Curiosities Show with more than 40 years of antique dealing, collecting and digging up the weirdest treasures he can find. Think medical and funerary pieces, natural history and taxidermy, religious relics, Odd Fellows and Masonic antiques, metaphysical oddities, bizarre ephemera and plenty of cool-ass trinkets with stories you may or may not want to know. Teresita is joining him again with a gloriously outrageous selection of vintage clothing and accessories, adding even more eccentricity to the mix. They’ve been saving some of their best finds since last year’s show, so expect a booth that feels part antique shop, part cabinet of curiosities and part “what the hell is that?” You never know what you’ll find — which is exactly the point.
