From the slower pace and sun-soaked landscapes of Mallorca, our Spain adventure continued to Barcelona, and the change of pace was immediate.
Barcelona is a city that makes you look up. The architecture is everywhere, and for someone who notices the details, there is almost too much to take in. Ornate stonework, iron balconies, Gothic arches and centuries-old buildings sit alongside the unmistakable work of Antoni GaudĂ. Casa BatllĂł, La Pedrera and, of course, La Sagrada FamĂlia are buildings we have all seen in photographs a hundred times, but nothing quite prepares you for seeing the scale and detail of them in person.
We wandered through the Gothic Quarter, where narrow streets, hidden courtyards and incredible old stone buildings made getting a little lost part of the experience. Barcelona Cathedral was another stop that deserved a moment, the kind of craftsmanship that reminds you just how differently buildings were once created.
One of our favourite days actually took us outside Barcelona to Montserrat. The drive alone was worth it, but arriving beneath those massive rock formations was something else entirely. Beautiful, peaceful and such a contrast to the energy of the city.
We also made time to experience another side of the region, heading underground into the w**e cellars and, naturally, doing some tasting along the way. Because when in SpainâŚ
Barcelona gave us history, architecture, food, w**e and more design inspiration than I could fit into ten photos.
