Happy September!

The mornings are cool and filled with sparkling dew,

The sun sits high in the sky and the days are warm.

The crickets and grasshoppers sing their songs,

The last of summer blooms and grasses dance in the breeze.

And the dang kids are going back to school. 🤣

Time flies when you're busy growing things.

Over the last 10 years, I wasn't just growing plants and a business, I also grew a tiny human.

The years go by in a blink.

A few weeks ago we flew our soon to be 13 year old to the East Coast to be with her family while we worked through the days. I watched from the window as she walked the tarmac and boarded a plane all by herself.

One blubbering mess, until I saw her turn around and wave at me with the biggest smile. I knew she would be ok. But would I?

Truthfully I have never been able to take a break or vacation without extreme stress and worry since I started Grow & Bloom.

But in the time you spend catastrophizing engulfed in work, your whole life passes you by.

It will all be there when you return.

So now I board a plane... (where I'll be working out flower orders for my next few months of weddings 🤦‍♀️), making a promise not just to myself, but to her that I will try to have fun.

A little girl with big dreams, endless imagination, 45 new business ideas every day and a stubborn streak that runs so deeply that nobody can hold her down.

I grew up and took leaps of faith that made me scared and worried. I still worry every day about what I am doing and the things I take on.

But, I'd like to think that the little girl in this photo who grew up without any encouragement, that had to build everything brick by brick would be proud of where she is now. And most likely, didn't even imagine the possibility.

Sure, it's been a bumpy ride. I am not rich in terms of traditional wealth, but what I view as treasure and riches, surrounds me every single day.

And that, is something. 😊

An ode to dahlia season.

I made this arrangement several years ago. It still speaks to me but I filter it through critical eyes that pick apart technique and ex*****on.

How I would make it again, would be completely different but I'm still posting it, and that's how I know I have grown.

Nature isn't perfect, and neither am I. A reminder to myself and perhaps you, that the journey is often more important than the destination.

We often tend to forget how far we have come when we are busy using bu****it metrics for measurement.

A garden is never truly finished, an arrangement can always be improved. It is in the messy learning and growing where true beauty and magick live. And that is far more interesting than perfection.

We are ever evolving.
