I’m a big believer in first drawing almost everything I build, often full size. It gives me the opportunity to work out the proportions, construction and dimensions . I get to solve problems and find mistakes. I make my mistakes on paper and fix them with an eraser instead of reworking or wasting the actual parts. When I’m happy with the drawing I make patterns of the complex parts and generate a stock list.

Jonny’s an interesting guy. His day job brings him to the Arctic. Three years ago he bought a run down farm house and hired me to build his entranceway. In the process of fixing up his home he realized he wanted to learn more about woodworking, so he signed up for private lessons. More to come.
