這尊由萬來培大師手製的陶瓷「如來佛」造像，屬於非常少見且珍貴的素燒陶塑作品。與常見的亮面白瓷或青瓷不同，這類作品的工藝難度與藝術價值極高，主要表現在以下幾個方面：

"Tathagata Buddha" – Handcrafted Unglazed Ceramic Statue by Master Wan Lai-Pei

• Size: Approx. 14" W × 12" L × 28" H
• Material: Hand-sculpted ceramic/clay

Master Wan Lai-Pei's Buddha statues are famous for their fine lines, peaceful faces, and smooth robes. The folds of the robe flow like water and look very layered. The edges are decorated with traditional geometric patterns and lucky cloud designs. The background screen (halo) and the lotus base are carved with great detail, blending traditional Buddhist art with top-level hand-carving skills.

This ceramic "Tathagata Buddha" statue is handcrafted by Master Wan Lai-Pei. It is a very rare and valuable piece of unglazed (matte) ceramic art. Unlike common shiny white or green (celadon) porcelain, this style is very hard to make and has high artistic value for the following reasons:

✅Ceramic Craftsmanship & Look

• Clay & Texture: Made from very fine clay and kaolin clay, the statue has a warm, soft beige or light brown color after firing. The surface does not have a heavy, shiny glaze. Instead, it keeps a smooth, matte finish that looks like wood or clay art. This simple, natural color removes the cold feeling of shiny porcelain and brings out a peaceful Zen style.

• Difficulty in Firing: Because there is no shiny glaze to hide mistakes, the carving and shaping before firing must be perfect. Large ceramic Buddha statues can easily warp, crack, or collapse when they shrink in the high-temperature kiln (usually over 1200°C). The steady structure and perfect balance of this piece show the Master’s absolute skill in controlling fire and clay.

✅Beautiful Carving Lines

• Fine Carving: Even though ceramics are made by shaping soft clay, this Buddha statue uses sharp techniques from traditional wood and stone carving for the clothing lines. The folds on the sleeves and bottom are deep and clear. The geometric patterns are sharp and neat, showing both the smoothness of clay and the strength of carving.

• Detailed Decorations: The raised "卍" (Wan/萬) symbol on the chest, the detailed necklace, and the double-strand prayer beads on the wrist are all made carefully by hand-shaping and detailed carving. Under soft light, the eyes, eyebrows, and hand positions look very lifelike and three-dimensional.

✅Buddha Features & Sacred Look

• Posture & Hand Gestures: The Tathagata Buddha sits in the full lotus position (meditation posture) on a double-layer lotus base. The left hand is open and flat, while the right hand is at the chest making the Teaching gesture. This represents the Buddha's wisdom and kindness in helping all living beings.

• Face & Jewelry: The Buddha has a full, round face with a very calm and peaceful look. The chest features the "卍" symbol, which means good luck and great virtue. The neck wears a delicate necklace, and the high hair knot has a bright red gem on top, showing the holy and grand look of the Tathagata Buddha.
