She started her design career in Japan and finally settled in North America where she learned the fine art of blending eastern and western cultures. Always intrigued by Architecture, Yanagi says it is also a major influence in her work. "Architecture is the marriage of form and context. The what and the why-these are equally important in fashion" The other main influence on her, she says, is the
design of fabric itself. "The fabric is my medium. It is key to the design. I am fascinated by its different textures, how it expresses shape and motion." These elements are reflected on all the merchandises displayed in her venues. Since 2003, Yanagi extended her garment collections to include offering a total package for weddings and special occasions. For weddings and festivities, Yanagi highlights that the focal point is not only on the beauty of the dresses, but rather on the harmony of the whole occasion. As such, cultural background and aspiration envisioned by the newly wed are carefully analyzed to arrive at a theme best suited for the individual event. This concept has been welcomed by many young couples, in particular, marriage of mixed races. In the many projects that Yanagi managed, she received heart felt gratitude from the newly weds for the memorable moments of their special evening. Aligned with this scheme, Yanagi strongly advocates the significance of maintaining equilibrium in ones living. Learning from the experiences of her friends and peers, Yanagi concludes that career, leisure and home constitute equal weights in a persons life.
