We are sorry to report that Penguin Pickup at 629 Eastern Ave will no longer be available as a fulfillment site. The last day to pick up orders will be December 12, 2025.

This is beyond our control as Penguin Pickup is changing their business model and their service is focusing on their larger partner companies.

We have started direct UBER delivery as an option from Leslieville and also we have a flat rate shipping rate for most non bulk orders in the Greater Toronto Area (see map).

Closing our retail store in downtown Toronto in 2023 was a lifestyle choice (after Covid) but we remain committed to our Toronto customers and continue to try to find other ways to fulfill orders.

UPDATE 3: It appears the system is working again and we can finally breath a sigh of relief. All tracking information from shipments sent out on July 7th have been sent now. Sorry for the delays.

UPDATE 2: we found a work around and can restore shipping by Canada Post. Tracking details will be sent Tuesday.

UPDATE: We may have a work around and orders will be flowing out this afternoon. Will keep this thread updated when it's officially shipping again. It maybe hard to send out tracking numbers but we'll try our best to match all shipments to a tracking number.

Canada Post had a system upgrade starting end of day June 30th and scheduled systems to be restored July 2nd for the start of work. This upgrade has been a complete FAIL by their IT department and we have been unable to create any shipping labels since. It is now almost 7 days since their system went down.

Historically Canada Post has been reliable and any site down time rarely lingered more than 1-2 days. Patience is running short and we have FAILED our customers waiting for Canada Post to restore systems for small business shipping (Snap Ship).

We shall starting this week be shipping by UPS until Canada Post can return. It's an expensive alternative but we are given no choice. For customers who chose GTA Shipping we may be using alternative delivery methods as it's just too expensive to use UPS. If you are expecting an order, please check your emails or be prepared for a call to arrange your delivery.

We apologize for this inconvenience this has caused in fulfilling orders. They are all piling up ready to be shipped without a solution.

One of the best if not the BEST waterbased screening ink is made in Australia by Permaset. We've been distributing this line for many years and it's superiority has been proven time and time again. The Supercover line (Opaque) has won over so many users for it's coverage and soft hand finish. Nothing comes close to its opacity in a water based formulation.

With 2025 comes another round of price increases and this is getting to be a very premium priced line. The North American distribution has to come through the USA and we do not know if import tariffs for the distributor will affect Canadian prices further.

We are holding 2024 prices as long as possible but this will be reviewed again as we continue to reorder stocks in 2025. Please get your orders in as soon as possible. We shall honor any pre orders at current pricing until April 30th, 2025 for delivery in April and May.

With the loss of Penguin Pickup distribution (except at 629 Eastern Ave), this preferred rate should help so many more of our customers in the local GTA area.

I was curious how many items are truly MADE in the USA this past weekend. Although we have suppliers that are USA based, there are very few items that are "country of origin" from the USA. I only counted less than 10 product lines.

The tariff situation is still very fluid and we still do not know how many of the items we import from the USA will be subject to retaliatory tariffs even if they are NOT "made in the USA".

As always, G&S DYE is Canadian based and servicing Canadian customers since 1986. With our insurance situation noted last year, we are 100% serving Canadians now. It isn't our intention to get into a geopolitical discussion but we are proud of Canada and what this country has given us professionally and personally.

We've been a Penguin Pickup partner for 5 years now. It's been a wonderful service to get us through Covid and servicing downtown Toronto (GTA) after closing our retail store in 2023.

Many have noticed the closing of more and more Penguin Pickup locations over the past year and we finally got notice that there is a change in their business model for "Last Km service" in 2025.

We are planning to retain ONE Penguin Pickup location (629 Eastern Ave) as our only downtown location. Opened 7 days a week with free parking, it's conveniently located and the only option that will work going forward.

We shall aim to transition to direct shipping for most orders by Canada Post starting in February 2025. The last day to use Penguin Pickup as a delivery option to other locations will be on February 7th, 2025 with pick up of your orders needing to be completed by February 14th, 2025.

We know there is a significant cost to customers to go from a "free" (G&S DYE paid service) to a "shipping charge" (Customer paid service) and we shall be introducing a subsidized shipping rate for the GTA starting on February 7th onward.

Amazon and online shopping puts immense pressure on independent small businesses in Canada to compete and to meet the growing need for immediacy. We thank you for your understanding as we try to navigate this new consumer expectation.
