Deb has been a part time weaver and part time resident of Mayne Island for 30 years. Starting off using a rigid heddle loom to create mats and bags and scarves and other treasures she progressed to a multi-harness table loom, finally ending up with a "beautiful" Louet floor model - Her gift to herself upon retirement.
Having found like-minded fibre people on the Island, she has taught her craft both on Mayne and in Vancouver. Most importantly, she and wonderful weaving partners have found their zen in Studio 652. Her textile journey is just beginning!!!
How did I start weaving? A few months before we got married my husband, Sam, surprised me with a large carefully wrapped box. To my amazement the box contained a 36 inch floor loom.
" I thought you'd appreciate this more than a diamond ring," he said.... and he was absolutely right! I am still thanking him!
I want everything I weave to be something someone could use.... fluffy blankets, colourful towels and cheerful rag rugs.
I feel so fortunate to able to do something that gives me ( and others) pleasure and to be together with a wonderful group of supportive and creative weavers!

I own a hardware store and have been a Knitter for many years. Fate connected me to a weaver needing paint for her weaving studio. To make a long story short she agreed to teach me and that has lead to my connection with these other amazing women and to the creation of studio space and fulfillment of a long dormant desire of mine to create through weaving.
Sandra Sandvik
Sandy has been weaving for close to 35 years. There was however a break from weaving for approx. 10 years where she focused on textile arts, mix media and quilting. Since retiring to her dream property on Mayne Island she has been able to spend more time involved in textile arts. Most recently Sandy has been very fortunate to connect with Studio 652 and extremely lucky to have her loom back together and weaving on it!!! It had been stored for the move in many packages of bubble wrap!
It has been Sandy’s life’s passion to weave ever since she completed textile courses in college and then a weaving workshop in Norway while visiting family! Studio 652 has allowed her once again to share my skills teaching, encourage new weavers, and be inspired by others!
