Let’s talk about wax!

Did you know that many candles on the market today are filled with toxic ingredients? From synthetic wax and fragrances, to harmful additives, not all candles are the same.

Read on to learn about the types of wax that’s commonly used in candles today and what to look out for:

🅇 Paraffin wax: a wax that’s made from petroleum (yes, the same stuff used to make oil and gas). It’s commonly found in cheaper candles and often paired with synthetic fragrance. Burning paraffin releases toxic chemicals into the air.

🅇 Beeswax: a well-known wax that’s produced by honey bees. It’s a natural wax, but is not considered vegan. Over the past 5 decades, honey bee colonies have been declining by the millions. Given the environmental impact, this wax is not sustainable.

✓ Soy wax: a natural vegetable wax derived from the oil of soybeans. It’s vegan, non-toxic and completely biodegradable. It’s a renewable wax that burns up to 50% longer than other waxes given it’s low melt point.

✓ Coconut wax: made from cold-pressed coconut fruit. It’s considered one of the healthiest types of wax because when burning, it produces much less soot than others and like soy, is biodegradable.

At Lunae, we use a 100% natural soy/coconut wax blend that’s derived from plants and has no synthetic additives. Our ingredients are vegan, non-toxic, and never tested on animals ♡
