THE AFTER | When the Kitchen Becomes the Heart of the Home
The range occupies a prominent position along the west elevation, yet remains deliberately understated. By relocating the original kitchen entrance, we created a more private working zone for the chef while guests naturally gravitate towards the generous central entertaining island.
And because even the most glamorous gatherings involve a little housekeeping, we designed a separate dishwashing area where china can be discreetly tucked away between courses. A small detail, perhaps, but one that makes all the difference when entertaining on a grand scale.
A new entrance connects the kitchen to the family room, while French doors along the south elevation open directly onto the terrace, swimming pool and barbecue area.
A recessed, large-screen television completes the picture, allowing the family and their guests to follow the Kentucky Derby or enjoy their favourite programmes from virtually anywhere on the main floor.
And beneath it all? The original reclaimed barn-board flooring, preserved with its wonderful, time-worn patina.
Because sometimes, the most beautiful thing a designer can do is know what not to change.
THE BEFORE| When the Kitchen Has Too Many Entrances, Conflicting Traffic Patterns & Not Enough Storage
A kitchen should invite you in, not leave you wondering where to go!
Too many entrances, competing traffic patterns and insufficient cabinetry can turn even a generous kitchen into a frustrating space to work in.
Before we could create the dream kitchen, we first had to understand what wasn’t working. Where people entered, how they moved through the space, where the chef needed to work, and how the family entertained.
Because a successful kitchen renovation isn’t simply about new cabinetry, countertops and appliances. It’s about rethinking the entire space.
The secret? Better planning, smarter circulation and a place for everything.
At Adam & Company Interior Design, we don’t just renovate kitchens. We reimagine how you live in them.
