Had another fun and productive class with a lovely group learning sashiko and boro to create a panel to serve as a stand-alone project or part of a bigger work. Great conversation and beautiful results. Thanks to all for joining me.

A new piece and new'ish process...fun result, "The Roadster and the Red Ensign". Inspired by an antique hot rod that sits in front of Ralph's Downeast Diner in Ship Harbour in the summer. By the time I realized I wanted to capture that, they'd put it away for the winter. So I asked ChatGPT to help with the image I had in my head and after a dozen or so prompts, I got a reference picture to work from. I made a number of adaptations along the way including adding in the red ensign on the flagpole to place it somewhere in Canada pre-1965. The gas price would also date it well back there (LOL 42¢/ gal 😀)

Stephen's most recent piece of work is from a trip to Peggy's Cove area in August. This is 21 Cove Road in Prospect Village. He made the yellow color a bit darker than actual, mostly to get better contrast with the white trim. Pretty house - we will have to learn more about it sometime!

A fun class today working on Stitched Word Banners - a great way to start 2026 with intention. We started with some interesting and powerful discussions on possible words and why they resonated. Enjoyed the reflection and the sharing of perspective

Surfside Studio Tour has shared some updates on possible construction on Hwy. 207 on Sept. 28. Looks like smooth sailing by Sunday but just in case, here are some alternate routes. Come and say hello to everybody at Stop 15 (that's our stop!).

An important note about our tour route:

We've had some questions about road construction along Hwy 207 and how it might effect the Surfside Studio Tour route this Sunday. But, don't worry - we expect minimal disruption by Sunday September 28th and you will enjoy a beautiful Sunday drive in one of the most picturesque areas of Nova Scotia!

As of today, Monday Sept. 22nd, a small portion of the road leading to Hwy 207 from Cole Harbour is currently closed, and is expected to be open by Friday September 26th, in plenty of time for the tour! We will update you if that changes.

However, there may still be a bit of construction on the weekend, and the best way to reach us and avoid any delays is in the following ways:

If coming from Halifax/Dartmouth take Highway 107 and use Exit 18 or 19.

Exit 18 will take you onto Mineville Road, which leads to Lawrencetown Road. Stop #1 is just past the intersection of Mineville Road/Lawrencetown Road (turn left at the stop sign)

You can also choose to take Exit 19 which will bring you close to Stop #15. At the bottom of the ramp from Exit 19 turn right, then left onto Bellefontaine Road, which will bring you to Hill Road where stop 15 is located.
