Welcome to the world, Willow! I have been waiting for you!

Mama Lilac was a superstar and birthed twin sisters (Hazel is just as sweet!) in the middle of the night.

I awoke at 3:30 AM Monday night (or early Tuesday morning) to the sound of our guardian dog Chloe yipping excitedly. She was determined to get me down there because as soon as I arrived, she quieted and was so happy. As soon as Hazel was born, and I scooped up the little lands and in the dark, we fumbled into a pen for Lilac to nestle down with her lambs.

All is going so well with the two mamas. I only bred my two ewes as I was planning on downsizing. Both Summer and I think we should keep all four though! They are so adorable.

On this day, I thought of my mom and how this is my first Mother’s Day without her.

We picked up a yellow magnolia tree to plant beside the creek, sprinkled with her ashes.

On this day, I am overwhelmed with gratitude for my three favourite humans. While one is treeplanting up north, my younger two put so much effort into loving me up with feasting and gardening.

And on this day, we were gifted the precious surprise of newborn lambs to first time mama, Rosie. She was a champ and all three are doing well, nestled in the barn.

For all of you who mother someone dear to you, I hope you felt appreciated and loved. For those of you who mother alone without a partner, I see you…and you are a hero. It is not an easy path, but one I wouldn’t change for anything.

Thank you Leif, Summer, and River…for giving me this precious gift of mothering you. Xoxoxo

The 2026 Yule & Yarn is live!

I am so happy to offer my fifth annual Christmas Advent calendar. As always, this year’s advent calendar is inspired by a very special custom painting by , “Home Comfort”.

I am planning on offering all three collections, but for now I have listed just the Folklore (beautifully hand dyed luxury yarn using conventional dyes), and the Homespun (woolly batts and combed top (lots of Haunui!) for the hand spinner.)

There is one gift for each of the days leading up to the 25th. Eighteen are fibre gifts and six are other treasures.

A reminder this is a pre-order item that will ship in late October and early November to arrive well before December 1st.

I look forward to putting these all together for you to enjoy from the comforts of your home!

Shearing day was a beautiful day yesterday and all 10 sheep are so fresh and so clean now!

And I have bags of wool to pick through and list in the shop in the near future.

Shearing is a big event and takes a lot of hands to make it run smoothly. After set up (pens made to keep a swift processing flow), to the gatekeeper (opens gate to let sheep back in their home pen after clipping and pedicures), to the sheep wrangler (don’t ever underestimate the speed and power of a teenage girl who amazed even the shearer), to the fleece gatherer and bag stuffer (my favourite job!), all went smoothly. A good job by our regular nomadic sheep shearer!

I’m off to dive into the first fleece..stay tuned!

And now time to sort and pick and delight in a good year’s worth of yarn farming!

Despite all the new chores to attend to (planting, weeding (already!), lambing, teen life, and my job), I am always wanting to end my day with busy hands, either knitting or spinning or crocheting. Handwork encourages an inner unwinding for me. I frequently tell my students at the Waldorf school that it is a wonderful way to self-regulate and nurture calmness and relaxation.

If you enjoy spinning as a physical meditation, I have a few spinning bundles available, like the one above. “Winter Driftwood” consists of a hand carded batt of Haunui combed top and Tussah silk and more, plus two separate luxuriously soft Haunui braids. So incredibly soft and spinnable!

Loving this view of grazing the flock in late afternoon as the sun prepares to sink behind the mountains. The creek is swelling and blossoms are opening. Spring!

We are waiting on lambs…any moment now! Lots of visits to the barn at all hours. After 14 years, lambing is still so exciting.

Happy Earth Day, friends. On a day like today, there is so much to be grateful for!

My youngest requested homemade marmalade…something I have never made before.

And when my older kids want me to make something, I am quick to shelve all other plans and pull out the canning supplies or the sewing machine, just for them.

It so happens that it was the peak of citrus season here, oranges were relatively affordable…so I spent two afternoons making a sticky mess that produced a year’s supply of tangy, sweet marmalade. A nice way to spend a few cool, damp days of mud season.

A few times while stirring the pot I wondered that I had never once made marmalade before when it was my dad’s favourite! I wish I had, just for him.

But now I made it for my happy teen. And he is so happy for a year’s supply. Maybe I will learn to like it, too?

The inside of my studio is not anything close to being as tidy as the outside!

The 5th (!) annual Yule & Yarn Advent is in full production mode. It may seem early but those shipping deadlines creep in quickly.

This March Break is all about chauffeuring kids to the ski hill and dyeing yarn. Enjoy your day, friends.

It is the season of surging sap and dripping taps. Maple Sugaring time is here!

Pillowy soft hand carded batts with Haunui combed top. Plenty in this “Maple Sugaring” wool batt to spin up yarn for socks or a cowl or a hat and shorty socks! 6 ounces (170 grams) of decadent fibre in total.

A sweet bundle of fibre for these lengthening February days.
