If I could organize one room in my house I would pick the garage. It's attached to the house so I am considering it a part of my house 😁

Anyway, our garage has been annoying me for years. This year we worked on it quite a bit and it is definitely better but it still needs a lot of work.

What is one room or area in your home that you would like to be organized? Comment below.

Society has told us we need the best of everything. Social media says we need that cream so we can look younger. We are told that our life would be so much easier if we had an Instant Pot or some other kitchen appliance or gadget. We are told our kids need to be in every event or program there is to be well rounded.

We are a bunch of stress balls surrounded by things we don't use because they didn't help our lives to be easier. We are exhausted driving our kids to every practice and play date. They are exhausted too.

We are carrying too much!!! When will enough be enough? When will we be ready to take our homes back? When will we let go of the things that don't matter and eventually be able to relax in our homes, be present with our families, and able to manage our homes without overwhelm?

Think about it.

Something I used to keep that I am glad is gone now is my doll collection. I collected dolls from all over the world when I was little and into my teens. I didn't have a huge collection but after a few years they just sat in a trunk in the basement. I moved them from house to house and there they sat.

I always felt guilty not displaying them and guilty when thinking of letting them go. Money was spent, some were gifts from people who traveled and thought of me and brought back a doll and some were my mom's dolls when she was little.

I finally sold some and let go of the rest a few years ago. I am so glad I finally did this. It has freed up space in our storage room and I no longer feel guilty walking past that trunk.

It was hard but we can do hard things.

What is something you have let go of that you are glad you did? Comment below.

Daily/Nightly resets are so important. It truly does help keep the home under control. It is not about perfection. It is to help things not get out of control.

The more we let things go, the more out of control they become and then we are overwhelmed.

Ten minute resets throughout the day or a nightly reset will help keep your home more manageable. It also helps the next day start a little more smoothly.

I had kept so many things handed down to me from my mom. A lot of them were in a trunk in the basement. I didn't look at them for years. I moved them from house to house.

I think I felt guilty to let them go. I want to tell you that once I did let them go I actually felt relieved and peaceful. I have things from my mom that I use and/or display. Those are the things I want to keep and that make me smile.

I encourage you to let go of the guilt. There is no guilt in making your home work for you.

What are some things you can let go of today that you have struggled to let go of because of guilt? Comment below.

Home resets are times where we take 10-15 minutes and go around the house and put things away, fold blankets on the couch, load the dishwasher, hang up coats, anything to just reset your space.

I like doing it in the evening so my home is ready for the next day. I get up to a home that is ready and I can get ready for the day so much easier.

I have a free printable of my nightly cleaning routine. Sometimes I don't do all the things. It's just a guideline. Link is below.

Let me know if you do a daily reset and if you like to do it in the morning or evening.

For many years my house felt heavy. I was trying so hard to keep up with cleaning, laundry, and just the everyday running of a home plus working full-time shift work. I couldn't do it.

I started to realize I had too much stuff to manage, especially for the stage of life I was in at the time. But, it was so hard to declutter certain things...gifts, heirlooms, doll collection I had started when I was little (I just decluttered all of them in the last 8 years). I felt guilty. I am slowly learning that I don't want anything that brings about negative feelings (guilt, shame, sadness, regret, stress, etc).

I want a home that is easy...easy to clean, easy to entertain in, easy to cook in, easy to do laundry. If the things don't add ease or support the life I am living right now I find it easier to let go.

I encourage you to ask yourself if the items you are holding onto are easy and support how you want your home to feel and function.
