✨Stix Georgian Sock✨
If you are a die hard sock knitter, and truly believe that you need nylon in your sock yarn for strength, let me blow your mind.
Nylon is a synthetic fibre that is often mixed with superwash merino wool to create sock yarn. Merino wool is a top tier sheep’s wool that is incredibly soft and beautiful to work with. Wool itself is temperature regulating and moisture wicking, however when it is superwash processed, those qualities are essentially gone. When mixed with nylon, the two fibres actually rub together, and break down faster, causing holes in your socks!
Bring on BFL- Blue Faced Leicester; a hearty, soft wool, with more strength than merino. On its own, this fibre is also temperature regulating, moisture wicking, and incredibly strong! You will often find BFL *untreated* (non superwash), and although it is available with nylon mixed in, we keep our Georgian Sock yarn natural.
Georgian Sock is strong and hard wearing and will outlast your merino socks ten fold! Are they machine washable and dryable? Well- yes and no.
Machine washable- cold water, delicate cycle; how you OF COURSE already take care of the rest of your delicates and knitwear!
Dryable- hang or lay flat to dry! The dryer wreaks clothing and so much of what you wear & make should NOT be going in the dryer!!
Try out our hand dyed Georgian Sock for your next project and see how it holds up for you!
