Every floor in this reel is cork.

Cork has changed. Modern cork planks come in wood looks as well as the classic cork pattern, with a hard-wearing finish on top.

What has not changed is how it feels. Cork is warmer underfoot than most hard floors and quieter to walk on, which is why it suits basements, bedrooms and condos.

A wood floor can handle a lot. Standing water is not one of them.

The kitchen, the bathroom and the front entry are where water sits on a floor longest: a leaking dishwasher, a wet bath mat, boots and a dog coming in from the rain. Those are the rooms where we usually steer people toward vinyl or a water-resistant laminate.

One thing to check before you buy: water-resistant and waterproof are not the same rating. Ask what the floor is actually rated for, and for how long it can take water sitting on it.

Oak, hickory or maple? Three hardwoods, three very different floors.

Oak is the all-rounder. It takes stain evenly, so it can go pale, mid-tone or dark and still look natural.

Hickory is the loud one. Cream to near chocolate, sometimes in a single board, and one of the hardest domestic species you can put down.

Maple is the quiet one. The grain is tight and even, which is exactly why it blotches when it is stained on site. Most maple floors are left natural or finished at the factory.

The Floor Vote draw is complete, and we are awarding three prizes instead of one.

On Monday, 28 September 2026, three entries were drawn at random from all eligible entries, in front of two witnesses. The first receives the prize set out in the Official Rules. On top of that, Canadian Home Style is adding two bonus prizes of the same value for the second and third entries drawn.

Each prize is a $2,500 credit toward a Canadian Home Style flooring supply-and-install project, plus an in-home design consultation. The three selected entrants have been contacted and have until Tuesday, 6 October 2026 to respond and claim their prize. Each prize is awarded once the entrant correctly answers a skill-testing question and confirms eligibility. We will announce the winners here, with their permission.

Thank you to every Metro Vancouver homeowner who entered and voted for their favourite floor.

Didn't win this time? Our team will be in touch with every entrant this week about the floor you picked and our fall offer: on any Canadian Home Style supply-and-install job, we remove and dispose of your carpet and underlay free, contracted by 30 November 2026.
