Our Glebe bathroom project is beyond sophisticated!!!
It was clear from the first visit to the client home, that there was an appreciation for contemporary design and fine woodwork details, along with natural materials.
I showed the client a few bathroom inspiration images to gauge his overall vibe he was drawn to, he adored one with full travertine walls. I ran with that inspiration, but instead of doing real travertine, which requires a lot of maintenance, I found one for the walls and another for the floors which looks impressively just like the real thing!
The wall tile has a satin finish, rather than polished or matte, polished oftentimes reflects highly, which can detract from a peaceful bathroom, and offer a glam look, which was not the sophisticated, masculine energy, we were striving for.
For the vanity cabinetry, there was interest in more exotic woods, we looked at different options and landed on African Mahogany with collaboration of the talented cabinetmaker. The wood brings amazing warmth to the contrast of the cooler tones in the space ( chrome, glass, soapstone look counter and whites ) and the framed style cabinetry brings a classy feeling and a bit of a surprise to everything else which is more sleek. The hardware from is the perfect industrial addition, which looks substantial and very handsome I must say, it gives luxury briefcase vibes, when in combination with the wood cabinetry.
For the bathroom to allow a full size freestanding tub, we had to reposition the doorway to the other end of the room and move the plumbing. The result is a wet zone with both a shower and full size tub, completely worth all the labour to make this happen!
The glass sink was chosen because it brought cohesion to the home’s powder room bathroom, which has a full glass sink and counter vanity top. And being so thick rimmed the sink really brings great beauty to the counter!
The counter is a soapstone look quartz with blue undertone, it compliments the orange/red of the mahogany so beautifully.
I’ve been told that even though this is the husband’s bathroom, the wife often finds herself in this bathroom’s tub 🛀
