Eating spoon from maple wood with a basket weave scratch pattern. I coated it in tung oil, caked some coffee grounds into it and it’s good to go.

Finished eating spoon carved from maple wood with a kolrosing design of a mountain range and sun. The wood was found last summer while on a walk with my boys. Sealing the end with glue helped to keep it fresh. This was my first time using the kolrosing knife and it works extremely well. Comfortable handle and glides through the design easily.

Finished the cuts. This is a pre burnished eating spoon from maple wood. Fall is coming. This is my favourite weather to carve in. The body of this spoon was carved entirely with a Slöjd Haus sloyd knife.

Rusty hands and sharp tools. I’m blessed to be able to try this beautiful carving tool from . I tested it out on some seasoned maple and I love the profile and length. It’s exactly what I want in a spoon carving tool.

A wonky “spoontula” from a section of maple log with a bent branch on the end. It was quite knotty but I just let the grain tell me what to do. Fits perfectly in the right hand, and the rounded edge allows you to stir food with the pointy edge allowing you to scrape corners. Good for spreading sauce, good for spreading icing on cakes, good for flippin’ eggs. I made this for my wife as part of a 5 year wedding anniversary present, so I put a rose on the handle in kolrosing with a simple basket weave. Did you know that wood is the traditional material for 5 year wedding anniversaries? How convenient for me!

What a cold day it was to be carving outside! But a great day carving as it’s been awhile. I did my first market since well before the birth of my third son, and my last market for this year. It’s time to regroup and get back into the groove of things - once the newest baby sleeps though the night that is. Sending my best wishes everyone’s way, hope you are all doing well out there. I will be sharing new carvings again and more of my work again here soon.
