Okay how cute are these pillows??

Made from upcycled vintage feed sacks from an Ontario mill, circa 1950s. Back when they made roasted oat bags out of super soft cotton 🀯

I saw them and just loved the idea of making them into throw pillows, so that's what I did!

The bags on their own are lovely too, though... Would you rather I leave them as is, or keep pillowfying them??

(PS: DM me if you want one of your own, or come find me at the on May 30th)

Today on the wheel:

My first successful core spin!! I'm not sure how, but something clicked and I was finally able to get the hang of it after many failed attempts. Obviously, it's not perfect, but I am happy with how it turned out.

This isn't my favourite colour of fibre, but I got a whole bump of it on FB marketplace for $50, and it's 100% wool! So this is my practice fibre. I have a whole other bump of the same stuff in grey, too. It's nice to be able to try new stuff out with something a little less precious than a hand painted braid or a hand-processed fleece.

Now to try my first beehive plying adventure! Stay tuned to see how it turns out.

I'm almost done with my months-long weaving project, and I'm really excited to throw a new warp on the loom (weavers- is this the correct terminology? I keep wanting to say "cast on" but obviously that's not correct πŸ˜‚).

I think next on the weaving docket will be some funky pillowcases that showcase some of the new art yarns I've been working on 😊 what do you think?

The colours are beautiful, and the texture is divine. I'm really pleased with how balanced my ply came out, too!

Happy Solstice, friends! πŸŒ·πŸŒžπŸ˜‚

I'm absolutely loving how this is turning out 😁

I switched the pattern to a simpler geometric design. I have learned that gauge matters a heck of a lot more with overshot weaving than it does with freeform plain weave (surprise surprise πŸ˜‚)

While I am pretty pleased with the consistency of my handspun within each skein, there's a bit more variation between skeins (for example, the purple is much chunkier than the blue.)

I also wanted the ground weft to be a bit thicker to stop the wavy warping that was happening in between the motifs. Doubling the thickness solved that problem, but it made the picks of tabby in between the pattern picks more visible, and I didn't like how that looked with the flower motif.

So happy that I have figured out a gauge and pattern that work for this piece. Now I'm in the fun part of the project, where I can just put my head down and weave weave weave until it's time to take this beauty off the loom.

I got to weave outside for the first time this spring over the weekend!! It was sooo nice 🌱🌞🌷have you done any outdoor crafting yet this season?

Today on the wheel:

Look at this gorgeous fibre from 😍😍 inspired by the Aurora borealis, it's got a beautiful mix of blues, greens, pinks, and purples.

This is my first spin that I am trying to make intentionally thick and thin. I'm going to spin the whole braid as a single and then play it with a fine line thread with some seed beads on it! Really excited to see how it turns out.

Art yarn is fun to make, and an excellent creative outlet. It's so cool to make yarns that I would never be able to buy in a store. That being said, it's definitely taking more brain space than a nice consistent fi*****ng weight yarn would. I'm kind of craving a good mindless spin after this one πŸ˜…

What kind of yarn would you make with this fibre? Do you prefer to make art yarns, or do you like to focus on consistency?
