Oh Woodstock, we’re finally back. 😍 Back with a rustic beauty (it was so hard for me to not to keep this sideboard!!), timely nostalgia, and new home and kitchen wares.
My favourite new thing is our LIFE Magazine gallery. We have a number of collector magazines from the 50’s and 60’s in very good condition that we have glass-framed in protective sleeves.
The sleeve can be removed (it does create a slight glare), but it was important to me that we protect the integrity of the magazines.
This instalment I am calling, “The Draft.”
With a U.S. draft looming, this hits close to home for me because I used to live in the states. Before we came back to Canada, my oldest was eligible for citizenship. I wasn’t sure. I wanted him to have it because he lived most of his life there, but I had a mama-intuition, God-warning, gut feeling that a war was coming.
This was 2019.
We moved to Canada. I didn’t apply for his citizenship until after we moved, and he did not become a citizen, even though he lived there for over ten years- and I am a U.S. citizen.
He will be 18 this October…
He would have been at the top of the list for this potential draft.
American history is often intertwined with Canadian history. Our friends to the south, our allies, our comrades, our partners, our military friends, they should not be forgotten. (Ahem, even in political climates 😅🙈)
Our veterans are life or death important. Necessary, and yet the reality horrible. The sacrifices of those who protect us are greatly under-appreciated.
I have seen firsthand what war does to a man. There is a difference between choosing that path, and having it forced upon you.
Right now, I think we’re at one of those moments in history we won’t want to forget.
“The Draft” instalment is more than a piece of history, it’s a reminder that the safe and beautiful country we live in came at a cost. Not only for those who fight, but for their families, coworkers, and friends.
I hope that you love the art as much as I do. 😉
And we are so happy to be back!
