Bone Meal Benefits
• Increases phosphorus.
• Essential for root development
• Slow releases for up to 4 months
• Can use on edible crops and ornamental gardens.
• 1 tbs of bone meal for every 2 square feet of soil
• Raises your soil pH.
For established plants; top dress around the base of the plant with bone meal. Cover bone meal with mulch. Watering will allow the bone meal to slowly feed down into the root system.
For new plantings; add bone meal below the bulb or roots when planting, allowing roots to grow and strengthen as the plants uses up the bone meal.

Now is one of the perfect times of the year to introduce perennials into your garden! Take a moment to assess your space: which plants have finished blooming? Do you need to add some color alongside them? Consider any empty spots you may have just noticed.
By planting perennials at this time, you can select the ideal companions for your existing plants, enhancing your garden with color, size, and companionship. Additionally, planting now gives your new perennials nearly three months to establish a robust root system, providing them with a head start for next spring.

Here are some of our favorite early fall perennials.
• Coneflowers, blooms June to September.
• Geraniums, blooms June to October.
• Black-eyed Susan, blooms June to September.
• Sedum, blooms July to October.
• Perennial Hibiscus, blooms August to September.
• Aster, blooms August to October.
• Stonecrop, blooms August to October.
• Helenium, blooms August to October.
• Japanese Anemone, blooms August to October

Betta fish are undoubtedly one of the most gorgeous fish you can keep in a tropical tank today. And did you know they have almost as many tail shapes as they do colours?

Some of the betta tail names on our list are rare and exotic while others are commonly found in many hobby tanks. Can you guess which is the rarest tail type on our list?

• Veiltail - The veiltail is the most common type with their long flowing downwards swooping tail.
• Crowntail - The crowntail is known for the spiky crownlike shape to their fins.
• Halfmoon tail - The halfmoon tail, when flared out the tail is a half circle, or "half-moon" shape.
• Rosetail - The rosetail is a variation of the halfmoon, with overlapping fins giving it a beautiful "rose" look.
• Overhalfmoon tail - The overhalfmoon tail is a betta with the tail when fully open is more that 180°.
• Feathertail - The feathertail is similar to the rosetail only with a more feathered look to the fins and more overlapping giving it a ruffled appearance.
• Combtail - The combtail is similar to the crowntail, except the webbing is longer in the tail.
• Deltatail - The deltatail starts narrow and then widens into a triangle shape.
• Superdelta - The superdelta is a similar shape to the delta tail, but this tail is bigger than a delta, but smaller than an halfmoon.
• Plakat - The plakat is a short-finned betta.
• Half-Sun tail - The half-sun tail is a combination of the crowntail and the half-moon betta.
• Doubletail - The doubletail has two tails. Many times they also have a longer dorsal fin.

🌱🌿Revitalize your soil with cover crops!🌿🌱

Cover crops are the best way to garden, when taking the “no-till” approach, and are a necessity for healthy soil. Cover crops boost microbial life and assist in restoring balance to your soil. They attract flying insects, such as pollinators and birds to them. Bird and insect p**p contains many nutrients needed for your soil. Cover crops also boost nitrogen, break up compacted soil and improve water infiltration.
Sow cover crops into your soil after your edible crops are finished. Plan to grow cover crops between fall and winter and some from spring to summer. There are 3 types of cover crops. Grains, legumes, and broadleaves.

Grains
• Rye
• Oats
• Wheat
Grain cover crops will break up compact soil and improve your water infiltration by slowing the movement of rain and irrigation. Sow grains fall to winter.

Legumes
• Peas
• Soyabeans
• Vetch
Legumes are used to increase your nitrogen. Sow legumes fall to winter.

Broadleaves
• Buckwheat
• Mustard
• Red clover
• White clover
Broadleaves are fast growing germinators to help shade out weeds, easy to turn into the garden. Sow broadleaves spring to summer.

You will need to turn your cover crops into the soil as soon as they are flowering. They are at their peak and will be holding the most nutrients in their roots and leaves which you need to put back into your soil. Cut the cover crop back to the soil and you can turn all the crop into the soil, or you can turn just the roots and put the cuttings into your compost. Allow 2-4 weeks for the cover crops to breakdown before sowing anything. If you are short on time, only turn the roots as these breakdown quicker than the entire plant.

At Mother Nature we have a good selection of cover crop seeds which you can start to use now as your edible gardens finish for the season. You can speak to any of our staff and learn which cover crop is the best one to use for your garden.
