It’s been a good long while since I worked on a bigger custom piece. Life shifts, and with that the way I need to access creativity shifts. This was the perfect piece to dip my toe back into bigger work with. A very cool human in my community commissioned this piece as a 40th birthday gift to herself. It feels fitting to complete this piece and prepare to send it to its forever home, as I will turn 40 this Friday. It seems surreal to be stepping into a new decade. While I don’t want to make any promises to myself, I’d like to think that this fresh decade slate will be a place to begin rewriting creativity in its new iteration.
In our house, we often reflect on these words from Mark Twain: “Never regret growing older. It is a privilege denied to many.”
