50 years. 50 years of stories. ❤️

And this one is all about DOWNTOWN! 📰

Throwing it back to August 24, 1997!

Nearly 30 years ago, the Quesnel Cariboo Observer ran an article titled “Merchants help make Quesnel a great place to live.”

And nearly three decades later, that message still rings true.

Our downtown has always been more than a collection of storefronts. It's a community of hardworking business owners, neighbours, and people who genuinely care about the place we call home.

Since those early days, we've always made an effort to have representation on the Quesnel Downtown Association board, and that commitment continues today. Not because we have to, but because we genuinely care about the future of our downtown. ❤️

Businesses have come and gone, storefronts have changed, and downtown has evolved. But one thing hasn't changed: when downtown thrives, Quesnel thrives. ✨️

Here's to the merchants who came before us, the ones investing their hearts into downtown today, and the generations who will carry it forward.

🎉 50 YEARS. 50 YEARS OF STORIES.
FUN FACT #4 ❤️

In all these years of business, our store has only ever closed unexpectedly ONCE.

📅 August 29, 1994.

The reason? Parveen decided it was time to be born. 🍼

32 years later, Parveen's running the place. Some might say she's been in charge since the day she was born (😉). Jack & Rami might have a different opinion. 🤣

Now, let's rewind five days prior - to this little piece of City Furniture history! 📰 (📷 Quesnel Observer)

Jack and Rami were supporting the Quesnel Child Development Centre, donating $600 along with hot dogs and pop for a fundraiser. The CDC has always been near and dear to our hearts because of the exceptional work they do for children and families in Quesnel. ❤️

Rami was just FIVE DAYS away from giving birth in this photo, and Sonia was 12 years old, about to take on her new role as built-in babysitter. A position she never applied for and could never resign from.😂

Looking back at photos like these reminds us just how intertwined our family, our business, and this community have always been. 🙏🏽

This Thanksgiving feels a little extra special as we celebrate 50 years of City Furniture & Appliances.

What started as a family business has become a story filled with generations of customers, familiar faces, lifelong friendships, and communities that have supported us every step of the way.

We've watched families grow, welcomed new generations through our doors, and had the privilege of being a small part of so many homes over the years.

To our incredible team, our loyal customers, and the community - thank you for making our story possible.

FUN FACT #3 👀

In 1995, Jack poached Rod from the competition.

Good hire, Jack. 😂

31 years later, Rod is still here.
The competitor? They are not. 👀
We’ll just leave that there. 😂

But seriously — Rod has been here through 31 years of City Furniture history. Renovations, expansions, busy Saturdays, big sales, changing styles, and enough furniture to furnish Quesnel a few times over.

This old newspaper clipping says “Competing with the big boys.”

There’s Rod, right in the middle of it — and 31 years later, he still is.

At this point, calling Rod an employee doesn’t quite cover it. He’s family, and he’s a big part of the CFA story. ❤️

31 years of loyalty. A LOT of stories. And somehow, he’s still putting up with our antics.😂

Wouldn’t have it any other way. ❤️

🎉 50 YEARS. 50 YEARS OF STORIES.

FUN FACT #2 👀

If you know Jack, you know Rami. Because from the beginning, this has always been a team. ❤️

Rami moved to Canada at just 16 years old with her older brothers, and married Jack in 1979.

While raising two young children, Rami was no stranger to hard work. Still isn’t, actually. 😂 At one point, she was juggling three jobs at the same time — Fields, A&W, and janitorial contracts at night.

Then came City Furniture.

And Rami didn’t just come along for the ride — she helped build what City Furniture Quesnel & Williams Lake are today. ❤️

This old newspaper clipping says it perfectly: she loves her customers, believes in shopping local, gives back to her community — and apparently, loves working with her husband.

After all these years working side-by-side, we may need to fact-check that last part. 😂

FUN FACT #1 👀

Did you know Jack’s City Furniture story started in 1979?

After moving to Canada at the age of 19, Jack joined City Furniture in Prince George as a delivery driver. 🚚 It was the beginning of what would become a decades-long career with the company — learning the business, serving customers, and eventually making his way to Quesnel with his wife, Rami and oldest daughter, Sonia.

Fast forward 12 years, and this newspaper clipping introduced Jack as the new manager of City Furniture Quesnel.

Our favourite part? Even back then, it was all about great prices, great service and taking care of the community.

47 years later, Jack’s still here (and occasionally relaxing at the lake). And apparently, consistency is his thing. 😂❤️

For 34 years, families in this community have walked through our doors and supported our sales. You’ve furnished your first homes with us, replaced the fridge that quit at the worst possible time, bought your kids their first beds, upgraded the family couch and continued to come back year after year.

That means more to us than we can put into a Facebook post.

Today wasn’t just about a big sale. Its also about celebrating 34 years of being YOUR local furniture and appliance store — and we wouldn’t still be here without the incredible support of this community.

To everyone who lined up, shopped with us, shared our posts, told a friend or has supported us at any point — THANK YOU. 🫶

50 years down as a franchise… and we’re nowhere near done. ❤️
