Aka Métis knot 2.0. This way of knotting can be easier but I find it a little looser, be mindful that you tighten the knot before beading.

This hide had some dried flesh when I got it. It’s fine to store the hide with flesh on, although I don’t recommend it.

If you get a hide that wasn’t folded properly you can still rehydrate and flesh it later on.

Before I was “too” blonde, “too” pale, didn’t have the “lived experience”.

Now I wear and practice my Métis culture with pride… how you ask?

1. I started learning about my ancestry, I did a family tree.

2. I started doing beadwork, making ribbon skirts and hide tanning.

3. I discovered that Irish culture is incredibly similar to Métis culture.

4. I stopped caring what others say and think of me.

I wear and practice my Métis culture with pride because my son deserves to know where he comes from. I want him to think back to his childhood and remember his mom was proud of who she was.

I want others to feel inspired, learn beadwork, sewing and hide tanning. Feel welcome and encouraged to share their culture with the world. So the ones who come after us will meet the world with less shame and fear than I once had.
