10 years ago, I'd tell people "I can draw, but I can't paint". I hadn't really picked up a paint brush, except for school assignments many years prior. I created most of my works in graphite, charcoal and coloured pencil. There was something unknown and scary about painting. It felt so much harder and intimidating!
I started painting in acrylic after my daughter was born. It started as simple crafty Christmas nativity signs, then woodslice ornaments (which I still do!). I also spent some time in pastels and studying portraits.
About a year or two ago, I decided I wanted to learn oil paint, which was another big challenge! And honestly, while I love all mediums, oils is now my favourite and I've been slowly building my skills in oil portraits and landscapes.
This was my 3rd oil painted portrait to my best recollection, created last Christmas! I just finished another one and I'm so excited to share it (once it has been gifted).
