As I finished yet another tremendous labour of love, I have been reflecting on the process and what it means to bring a creation to life. It is definitely not as easy as you may assume...
I calculated how many stitches and about how many hours to make this blanket. ππͺ‘π§Ά
It worked out to 40533 stitches - 174 rows with 229 stitches each.
It took me about an hour to do two rows, but sometimes more, so I would say roughly 95 hours of crochet. Add to that another 8 hours to weave in all the ends.
If I made minimum wage it would take 3 weeks of 8 hour days to do the project and over $1800 in salary. Plus there is about $200 for supplies and shipping.
I definitely don't do this for the money. No artist does what they do for the money...
The reaction a satisfied client gives upon receiving a project means so much more than a monetary payment. Fellow artists understand this. I just wanted to share these details, so potential clients can understand that this business is about passion and the love of creating. Not the $300 I may charge for a blanket or the $60 I may charge for a painted wooden sign.
Please be respectful to those of us who create. We put endless hours in to making your project come to life, and we do this out of passion and love. Your greatest gift to us is your appreciation. We love you for it.
Thank you for appreciating my work! β€οΈπ§Άπ
