Submarine Buns
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Rise: 1.5 hours
Cook Time: 20-25 minutes
4 10-12” buns
1 cup warm water
1 tbsp instant yeast
1 1/2 tsp of salt
1 tbsp sugar
4 tbsp oil
Mix let stand 5 minutes.
2 1/2-3 cups flour

1. In an electric mixer bowl add water, yeast, salt, sugar and oil. Let activate for 5 minutes. Add 2.5 cups of bread flour. Add additional flour until the dough pulls off the side of the bowl when using the dough hook. Once this happens set timer and continue to knead for eight minutes. Remove dough hook and dough from bowl and put some oil in the bowl and put the dough back in. Then flip the dough over and cover with a damp clean cloth and allow to rise for half hour or until doubled in size.
2. Turn out onto lightly floured surface and cut in half and then half again to make 4 equal proteins. Roll each portion with rolling pin to a rectangle approximately 4”x8”. Roll each one up and place on a lined baking sheet. Cover with a clean dry towel and allow to rise 1 hour in a cold oven with the light on.
3. Preheat oven to 350. Bake for 20-25 minutes. Remove from oven and while hot brush with butter and cover with the same clean dry kitchen towel until completely cool.

Saturday is Pizza Night. I’m sharing how I make my dough in case you want to make it.

🍕Dough
2 cups warm milk
6 tsp active yeast
Mix let set for 5-10 minutes.
Add
4 cups of flour
1 tbsp salt
2 tbsp olive oil
After mixed together knead for 10 minutes.
Cover let rise till doubled in size.
Turn onto lightly floured surface and cut into 4 equal portions.
Put 1/2 tsp of oil into 4-1 quart ziplock bag. Add dough ball to each bag.
Store in the refrigerator over night.
Before using let set on counter for 4-6 hours.
This can be rolled out and baked onto a pizza pan. I prefer to kneaded with fingertips into a 12” cast iron skillet. Then cover and knead again with finger tips until it touches the sides of the pan and stays there.
Preheat oven to 500
I bake for 22-25 minutes.
Remove from oven and brush edges with garlic butter and allow to cool for a couple minutes.
Losses with plastic lifter and remove to cutting board and let it sit for 3-4 minutes before cutting.

Tonight is leftover Cheeseburger Soup and homemade bread. Saturday is Pizza night. Sunday I’m planning on making my submarine buns again. Anyone interested in step by step on these buns?
