August is pretty amazing for flowers.

The fields are bursting. The colours are ridiculous. The textures are abundant. And every time I pick up another locally grown bunch, I find something else I want to put into everything.

Peak season is here.

And while I’m soaking up every incredible, flower-filled minute of it, I know the end of the growing season is quietly creeping closer.

So I brought a little piece of August back to the shop and I’m going to enjoy the heck out of it.

Someday we will dream about today. 🤍

These marigolds were grown just outside Toronto by FrenchBlooms and they are pure, simple happiness.

They take me right back to my grandma’s garden. She grew marigolds too, so maybe that’s part of why I love them so much.

Local flowers. Sunshine flowers. Grandma flowers.

There are some moments in small business that completely catch you off guard.

This was one of them.

I recently found out that Fern Toronto has been awarded Gold for Best Florist in Scarborough in the CommunityVotes 2026 awards.

The funny part? I didn’t even know the awards were happening.

I wasn’t asking for votes or sharing reminders to vote. So finding out that people in our community nominated and supported my business on their own made this recognition feel even more meaningful.

The truth is, running a small business can be incredibly rewarding... and incredibly challenging.

Behind every bouquet is a person wearing a dozen different hats. Designing flowers, answering emails, sweeping the floor, placing flower orders, managing the website, keeping up with social media, delivering flowers, worrying about finances, and hoping you’re building something that truly matters.

Some days feel full of momentum.

Other days leave you questioning everything.

Then, out of nowhere, something like this reminds you that people notice. That they care. That the work you’ve poured your heart into has reached someone.

To every customer who has trusted me with birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, sympathy flowers, celebrations, and everyday moments - thank you.
