💍 A little apology—and a Wedding Weekend treat! 💍

I’m afraid I’ve rather dropped the ball on this week’s Barn Drop. With our son getting married this weekend, things have been just a little bit busy behind the scenes! ❤️

But don’t worry—the Barn Drop will be back next Thursday, and we’ll make sure it’s worth waiting for.

In the meantime, the Barn will still be open as usual this weekend, with Jan and Marion holding the fort on Saturday—and Lorraine, along with a special appearance from Sherry of Vintage Treasures, taking care of things on Sunday!

And because it’s a very special weekend for our family, we thought we’d share a little of the celebration with you…

🎉 Enjoy 10% off everything in the shop this Saturday and Sunday! 🎉

So while I’m off attempting not to cry through the wedding—and hopefully surviving the mother-and-groom dance—the Barn ladies will be ready to welcome you.

Saturday 11–4
Sunday 11–3

Thank you for understanding, and we’ll see you for the return of the Barn Drop next Thursday! ❤️

✨ SOMETHING NEW IS COMING TOMORROW EVENING… ✨

We know summer is busy—and not everyone has an hour to sit and watch a live sale—so we’re trying something a little different!

Tomorrow evening, we’ll be doing our very first Barn Drop: around 12–15 individually posted pieces, all available to claim right here on Facebook.

Some vintage, some quirky, some useful—and possibly a little bit unexpected. 😉

We’re cleaning, sorting and pulling it all together now. See you tomorrow evening!

What’s it REALLY like running a vintage shop?

People often walk into the Barn and say, “Oh my goodness, this must be your dream job!”

And actually… it is. ❤️

But behind the scenes, there are days when it feels less like running a beautiful vintage shop and more like playing an enormous game of Tetris while simultaneously spinning 14 plates.

We sell a six-foot dresser? Fantastic! We genuinely do a little happy dance.🕺

Except now there’s a six-foot hole.

Move another dresser into the hole. It doesn’t look right.

Move the cupboard beside it.

Now the wall looks empty.

Move the mirror.

The mirror is too small.

Move another table.

And approximately 17 pieces of furniture later, we’ve somehow rearranged half the shop and can no longer remember what started it. 😂

Which is why one of the nicest things anyone can say when they walk through the door is:

“Oh wow, it looks completely different in here!”

We hear it all the time — and we LOVE hearing it. Because yes, it probably does look different. And somewhere behind that lovely new display were two very tired people at 11 o’clock the night before wondering why on earth they decided the enormous cupboard looked better on the other side of the room.

And that’s really the bit customers don’t see.

Our supposed “days off” are generally spent sourcing, repairing, painting, spraying, cleaning, upholstering or delivering furniture.

One evening this week I was at my kitchen table ironing backing onto fabric to make it substantial enough for upholstery, then recovering chairs and properly finishing the undersides — because even the bits you don’t see matter to us.

Tuesday, Bill and I spent most of the day delivering a table to Parksville. By the time we’d delivered it, chatted with its very happy new owners, grabbed something to eat and driven home, it was after 9pm.

Other sourcing trips involve packing the truck so precisely that Tetris really should be sponsoring us by now. Occasionally followed by discovering halfway home that perhaps we weren’t quite as good at Tetris as we thought.

There have been drawers rebuilt. Things retrieved from roads. Furniture carried, repaired and carried again. And paint that won’t cooperate because it’s too hot, too cold, too damp or apparently just because it doesn’t feel like it today.

Somewhere amongst all that, there’s bookkeeping, pricing, photography, social media, messages, ordering supplies and a hundred other little jobs.

But then we open the doors.

And that’s a completely different part of the job — and genuinely one of our favourites.

We love the conversations. We love when someone spots something and tells us it reminds them of their grandmother’s house. We love hearing the stories about pieces people already own. We love someone wandering around for half an hour just taking everything in.

And when somebody takes the time to tell us how much they love the way the Barn looks, notices that we’ve changed everything around again, or tells us how much they love something we’ve restored or created — believe me, we appreciate it.

And of course, we REALLY love it when you buy something. 😂

Not simply because we’ve made a sale, but because there’s something incredibly satisfying about watching a piece we found, cleaned, repaired, painted, upholstered or brought back to life leave with someone who is genuinely excited to have it in their home.

That’s why we’re here.

So yes, running a vintage shop can be exhausting, chaotic and occasionally completely ridiculous.

But most of that chaos happens behind the scenes.

What you see when you walk through the doors is the bit we’ve been working towards all along.

And we still think it’s one of the best jobs in the world. ❤️

And we can’t do this without you!
