Rebecca Santry Abstract Artist
Inspired by the Movement and Layers in Nature Art became Rebeccaโ€™s therapy, a place to escape, play and challenge herself.

Rebeccaโ€™s move to the Pacific Northwest from the UK brought a change in lifestyle, a new environment and new-found inspiration. The rugged landscapes and stunning vistas of the Coastal Mountains and Shoreline have become the focus of her art work. During her earlier years, studying Art at Loughborough University, composition was always a keen interest and strength in her visual communication, and

she found a great sense of fulfilment in a hands-on approach. Designing new layouts in her sketchbook, shifting and placing various layers across a blank canvas and combining them with the elements in nature. Building fractal patterns and emotive imagery, merging them with geometric shapes and translating them to raw prints. She wanted to create artwork that reflected her passion for all of this.

As I sit here in my studio, reflecting on this Tuesday morning,
Iโ€™m feeling immense gratitude :)

Grateful for this forced downtime.

Slowing down has given me more than I expected.
More time with my son.
More books.
New music and podcasts filling the quieter spaces.
Long chats with good friends.
A growing sense of patience.
A deeper contentment with what we have.

More awareness of how lucky I am..
held by supportive friends and family.

Being mostly at home my inspiration has shifted somewhat
from external to internal.
Its recently come from closer places:
my family, my people, my garden

And in this stillness,
Iโ€™ve found myself leaning further into exploration;
becoming more resourceful,
building collages,
constructing and deconstructing canvases,
letting the work be guided from within.

Iโ€™m pretty happy with all of that!

Happy Spring! (We finally have some incredible sunshine lighting up these mountains!) :))

Slowly finding my rhythm again..

Iโ€™ve been easing back into the studio with smaller collage works, alongside larger canvas pieces that are still mid process; working in short bursts, prepping paint, building layers, and letting things evolve over time. Hereโ€™s a snapshot of both, slowly recreating and rebuilding as I go.

Something that would normally take me a week is taking longer than usual. Iโ€™ve always put pressure on myself to deliver a finished piece within days, even hours so itโ€™s been a steep learning curve of patience with only being able to paint for 30 minutes at a time.

With these quieter stretches Iโ€™m noticing things differently and thatโ€™s been unexpectedly rewarding (silver linings!)

Reworking older pieces has become a big part of this phase, taking more time to reflect on their composition, finding new direction within them.

For those waiting on a commission or my next series of work, thank you for your patience and continued support. Itโ€™s coming :))

Hi, itโ€™s me ๐Ÿƒ

A little life update. Last weekend I broke my femur in a ski accident and underwent emergency surgery. Itโ€™s been a shock to the old system in more ways than one.

Not being able to move freely in my studio or work on my large canvases nearly undid me. Painting at that scale is such a physical, full-body process, and suddenly that felt out of reach.

I kept thinking about the stacks of canvas fragments that have built up over the years, layers and sections from past works, full of stories.

So instead of fighting what I canโ€™t do right now, Iโ€™m choosing to work with what I can.

Over the next few weeks, Iโ€™ll be reworking these collected fragments into a small, intentional collection, giving them new focus at a different pace. A shift in scale, but not in depth.

Thereโ€™s something meaningful about making the work accessible for me to create in this seasonโ€ฆ and also more accessible for those whoโ€™ve wanted to collect a piece but were waiting for the right entry point. If you are interested in hearing more I will be sharing first to my newsletter. So please sign up if youโ€™d like to be notified.

Thank you to my husband, family and to my incredible friends who have held me up through this. Breaking bones is not fun, it can take you to a low place but having this kind of support goes a long way.

This feels like a reset.
A different and positive pivot for now. More to comeโ€ฆ

Missing the ocean.

Winter has a way of stripping things back to their essence, and Iโ€™m always drawn to that honesty in nature.

These oxblood coloured ferns caught my eye for their quiet strength, the way they hold their shape even as the season shifts around them. Thereโ€™s a rhythm in their movement, a palette that feels both deep and restrained, and something in that contrast always finds its way into my work.

Nature is endlessly generous with its cues: colour, form, and the subtle gestures that appear when everything becomes still. Pieces inspired by this are my way of holding onto those moments a little longer.

Thereโ€™s something special about seeing a commission settled into its new home.

I finished this piece recently for a friend and receiving photos of it in place is always one of my favourite parts of the process. Seeing the work become part of someoneโ€™s environment, shaping a corner, shifting the tone of a room, or simply offering a moment of quiet, is incredibly rewarding.

Itโ€™s meaningful to know the art continues its story long after it leaves my studio. Thank you to my collectors who share these glimpses back with me.
