Another happy bride at her final fitting today. Her dress needed hemming, new bra cups added, sleeves widened, and bustling. For the sleeves I added a full inch of netting from the hemline at the underarm. In the final picture you can see the beautiful 3 point bustle, and the sleeves fitting so much better.

WEDDING FAVOR ALERT: What do you give for a wedding favor? People have too much “stuff” already, and don’t really want more. Solution: I made over 90 maple leaf glazed sugar cookies for my daughter’s wedding favors. Cookies are made with real butter and real maple syrup in the glaze. Each cookie was individually wrapped in cellophane with round brown paper label and custom lettering. Wedding guests commented throughout the evening how delicious the cookies were. Shout out to Gramma Bear's Cakery for her fabulous buttercream cupcakes that we also served for dessert.

P.S. Not one cookie or cupcake was left on the table at the end of the evening. I would call that a win!!

My girl and me on her wedding day! So proud and so much love for this amazing beautiful young woman, mother, and now wife. A few happy tears may have been shed this day. 💕💕

Part 4: “Something borrowed, Something blue”
Shelley’s wedding dress accessories.

My mom (bottom right) loved jewelry, and left us girls a ton of costume jewelry when she passed away almost 4 years ago. All us girls went through it and each of us took a few pieces that we liked and would remember her by. There was a lot left over. I was looking through it 2-3 weeks ago, looking for something for me to wear to the wedding that would match my dress. Instead, I found these beautiful tear drop Diamondelle sterling silver earrings and sterling silver bracelet with little blue stones. They seemed just perfect for Shelley to wear on her special day for the tradition of “something borrowed, something blue”, and she agreed. My mom couldn’t be with us, but a small part of her was there and remembered in her jewelry. You want to know the really strange part? All of us girls, 6 of us, went through her jewelry at different times, and none of us found these pieces, until I looked a few weeks ago. It was meant to be. Thank you Mom. ❤️

Part 3: “Something New” Shelley’s wedding dress. Finishing the hemline and inner bodice lining.

After establishing the exact length of hemline, the wavy lace trim was sewn onto the bottom of the lace overlay. Shelley asked me to leave a tiny train at the back only 3-4” long, which I did. The 2 inner slips were hemmed a bit shorter under the overlay. After all darts, skirt gathers, zipper was fitted, and a couple minor bodice tucks, the inner bodice lining was sewn by hand to the skirt lining at the waistline. This now completes making Shelley’s wedding dress. Stay tuned for her “something borrowed, something blue” coming very soon. And more wedding pictures!!

Part 2 : “Something New”, finishing the bodice and waist of Shelley’s wedding dress.

3rd fitting: As you can see in the first photo, the front bodice needed to fit better and some lace overlay bunching on her upper right chest below the shoulder, needed to be addressed. I placed darts under the bust for a more fitted definition. Just below the darts on the skirt, gathers were added for extra fullness and to the fit the waist exactly. The next photos show the bunching fixed and lace overlay now laying flat on her right side. The darts are providing the much needed definition and smoothness. The gathers are done on the skirt just under the bodice darts, so now the waist and bodice are all fitting as they should.

The 2nd fitting was the placing of the back zipper by pinning the back raw edges of the dress to where I would sew the zipper to fit Shelley’s bust, while taking care to leave room for the bust darts and skirt gathers discussed above. Darts were also placed on the bodice back. The last picture shows the back of the dress and completed zipper.

As a final note, completing her “something old”, is the trim around neckline, armholes, and waist. All the lace trim came from my 1976 wedding veil and Juliet cap.

Part 1: Making Shelley’s dress bodice, adding her “something old”

This is my most favorite thing on her dress. From a Pinterest picture that she showed me, “Mom, I really love this rick - rack around the neck and armholes, do you think you could find something similar for my dress?” Me: “Actually, I think I have some of that.”

The pictures you see below are from my veil and Juliet cap from my 1976 wedding, 50 years ago! I cut off the rick-rack from all around the edge of my veil and wider trim from my Juliet cap. It all needed a good soaking in Oxyclean to remove a little yellowing from age. Next, I pinned the trim to her dress bodice and sewed it around armholes and neckline. The wider trim, which I will show in the next post, was sewn over the seam of the bodice and skirt at waist.

Sneak peak! My daughter’s wedding this past Saturday was absolutely perfect in every way. The weather cooperated, everything was so beautifully set up on our acreage and the days events flowed seamlessly and smoothly. Her wedding dress I made for her was sparkling in the sunshine, and the bride herself was absolutely glowing with happiness. Just look how beautiful she is. My son-in-law was also looking pretty dapper in his suspenders, bow tie, and peaked cap. These are the only 2 pictures being shared so far. There will be tons more pictures to come very soon. I will share the dress making process with you as well. I would love to hear your comments below.
