After nearly two weeks closed, we are back open at The Carousel!
The Friday we were all evacuated will be a night I will never forget. I could see the flames coming over the mountain as I locked up the shop. I went home to pack up and couldn't help but wonder, what will we all come back to? I thought about my home, our shop, our community.
I realized, what made me most sad and scared was the possibility of losing our community. People scattered and spread out, not able to return home, Summerland never being the same again. When we saw the news on Saturday morning, we knew most of town was spared, but unfortunately there were losses of homes and businesses. Our town is spread out with over 12000 people, but everyone in town knows someone who lost everything.
We as a community will wrap our arms around those families and help in any way we can so you can rebuild your life and home.
The Carousel will be hosting a silent auction in September to raise money for those families. If you have a unique treasure you'd like to offer for the auction, please reach out.
We'd like to thank everyone who contributed in any way to help during this difficult time. We felt taken care of by the entire community of Penticton during evacuation and knew everyone on the front lines were doing everything they possibly could to defeat this fire and keep us informed. Thank you, thank you, thank you💗
