⚠️ We’ve been experimenting with reversing the manufacturer’s dilution ratios… 👀👇🏽

The results have been creating some really beautiful texture.

📌 Save this if you’re planning a Mineralwash project.

First, let’s make dilution ratios simple.

A 50% dilution means:
🪣 1000 mL of product + 500 mL of water.

An 80% dilution means:
🪣 1000 mL of product + 800 mL of water.

The manufacturer’s process is essentially:

1️⃣ First coat
💧 Up to 5% dilution
Example:
1000 mL product + 50 mL water

2️⃣ Second coat
💧 50% to 80% dilution depending on the desired effect
Example:
1000 mL product + 500 to 800 mL water

Here’s what we’ve been testing at Primetime instead 👇🏽

🎨 First coat
💧 50% to 80% dilution

🎨 Second coat
💧 Up to 5% dilution

We’ve found that building movement early and finishing with a richer, less diluted coat can create a finish with more depth and texture.

🙏🏽 This is not the manufacturer’s recommended application.

It’s simply a technique we’ve been experimenting with to achieve a different aesthetic.

Like I mentioned in the video, artistic finishes are different.

There are rules.

But they’re really guidelines.

Once you understand the material, you can begin creating finishes that are uniquely your own.

Color isn’t a fixed outcome. It’s a range.

The moment you move from flat paint to textured walls, everything changes.

Limewash, Roman clay, and mineral finishes don’t just hold color, they shift it. Light hits high points differently than low points. Movement gets introduced. Depth starts to exist.
