When you’ve got a builder-basic fireplace…but not a rip-it-out budget. 😬

Instead of spending the entire budget trying to turn the fireplace into something it wasn’t, we made it less important—and designed the whole wall to be the star.

Paint, cabinetry, floating shelves and a little symmetry transformed that sad little fireplace into part of a much bigger composition.

The best part? If our clients decide to upgrade it later, the rest of the design will still work.

Sometimes the solution isn’t to rip out the thing you hate. It’s to stop giving it so much attention.

You don’t need to buy everything for your home all at once. Your credit card can breathe. 😂

But before you buy the sofa—or spend six months debating rugs—you need a complete plan.

When you already know the layout, colour palette and pieces you’re working toward, you can decorate at your own pace without making every purchase a brand-new decision.

Buy slowly. Follow the plan. Pull it together beautifully.

Your fireplace and TV do not need to be in a committed relationship. 😂

Sometimes mounting the TV above the fireplace makes perfect sense. Other times, it gives you a gorgeous focal point—and a very expensive neck ache.

Before you reach for the TV mount, consider the viewing height, how far away you’ll be sitting, and whether another wall could work better. And yes, your room is allowed to have two focal points.

The Interior Design Police will not be coming for you.

The real question isn’t, “Can the TV go over the fireplace?”
It’s: “Will it make the room work better?”

If that random column insists on taking up valuable floor space, it’s time for it to start earning its keep. 😂

Wrap it and make it a feature. Build shelving around it. Turn it into a desk, table or seating area.

Because if awkward architecture can’t leave, the least it can do is get a job. 👀

That awkward wall jog wasn’t going anywhere…

…so we put it to work.

A lower cabinet, floating shelves, and suddenly the builder’s little “oops” became a bar. 🍸

Sometimes good design is simply giving weird architecture a job.

This giant corner fireplace wanted to control the entire room.

We had other plans. 😏

By shifting the focal point to the TV wall, we created a layout with comfortable seating, clear walkways—and zero neck strain. 🔥

99% of you are making this mistake.

Okay, the statistic is fake. The design problem is very real. 😂

One overhead light is not a lighting plan.

Layer in lamps, sconces and softer pools of light at different heights, and suddenly your room has warmth, depth and atmosphere.

Your ceiling light can stay.

It just needs some backup. 😉

Your paint colour isn’t supposed to carry the whole room. 😬

Pick the palette first. Then choose a wall colour that actually belongs in it.

That’s how you get a room that feels cohesive instead of accidentally colour-coded.

Scale is about how each piece relates to the room — and to everything around it.

Beautiful furniture can still look completely wrong when those relationships are off.

A good layout should make it easy to move, talk, relax, watch TV, work — whatever you actually use the room for.

Fit the layout to your life. Not just the furniture to the room.
