With the New Year and new faces here, it felt like the right moment to introduce myself and say hello again to those who have been following my work for years.
I am Inna, the designer behind Egoist Design. Ukrainian, born and raised in Kyiv. As a teenager, I moved to Canada with my family and went on to study and build a life in Toronto - a beloved city that has been home for many years.
As a child, long before interior design became a chosen profession, I was already drawn to the aesthetic potential of interiors. Homes always felt like cozy fortresses where everyday life unfolded. Walking down the street, I would glance into lit windows and imagine the lives inside: how a space was laid out, where people gathered, what conversations they had. From afar, light was often the first thing that caught my eye, it felt like the element that made interiors and their atmosphere dimensional.
That fascination never left and gradually grew into a way of seeing and, eventually, into the work I do today.
The first thing I examine when starting a project is how natural light enters the space and interacts with its structure, how it moves, shifts, and travels. Layering ambient, task, and accent lighting, materials, textures, tones, shapes, and patterns… Good design comes from balancing these elements with thoughtful planning and flow, so a space feels intuitive.
I listen closely and engage deeply in order to design around real life. Building trust with clients is fundamental because beyond space planning and luxury, interior design is about bringing soul into indoor environments.
Some non-design facts:
• I run a portrait photography practice and also shoot my own design projects.
• Rock concerts and flea markets give me the same level of thrill.
• I’m a movie buff whose favourite film is too inappropriate to mention.
• Love hotel bars and airports because they feel like time capsules.
• A Francophile who doesn’t speak French.
• I squeeze lemon on vanilla ice cream.
• Family is my home, no matter the interior.
